That's good to know. I just was thinking that some 100+ posts and many 1,000 views about my dog was making me come across as narcissticist or something....it did need to me that some focus is required because as much as I love him my purpose in this ongoing discussion was not just about him, but every dog that has chronic issues and how to deal with it.

Nah, we just love you and Bacca, Barb. :wink2:

Your a mom, that loves your babes, and we love you too~:hugs

I have followed this whole thread. Haven't been able to add anything but have followed it.

You never know when one of our babies is going to have some kind of problem like Bacca and this gives us more understanding.

I'm always glad to read the informative threads.....like this one.

I'll have to check when I get home, but this book has a bunch of recipes for dogs with health conditions. http://www.amazon.com/Raw-Natural-N...UTF8&qid=1368626499&sr=8-1&keywords=lew+olson

If there are recipes for liver conditions, I can try and photo copy a few recipes and email it to you.

Trust me I barely cook for myself, so I understand your hesitation, but with a dog, you can make food for like a month and just freeze them. So it will only be one day a month of really cooking. And it's so easy to warm frozen veggies, bake or boil some chicken and steak. It's not like real cooking with spices and marinades. You just need to make sure the protein is the right level for his liver condition.

I also couldn't find any commercial food that had very low protein except for the prescription foods. I remember when Bailey had stomach issues, she had to be put on a prescription diet. It had a lot of questionable ingredients, but it really was the only food that worked for her. I had no choice. Thankfully, she grew out of it and now eats better quality food. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Maybe if you feel cooking is too overwhelming, you can alternate with the prescription kibble and some cooked food, so you get a break?

Just throwing some ideas out there for you. Bacca is in good hands with you. I know you'll do everything you can within your means to make sure Bacca remains comfortable.

I just want to thank you Barb for this thread. I have followed it closely. I so feel for both you and Bacca and hope things work out. Our last 3 shelties were hypothyroid and our last fellow also had issues related to the hypothyroidism one being "skin funk" on his chest thankfully not as bad as Bacca. He passed away at age 9 of a ruptured gallbladder. I didn't know enough about the pancreatitis (liver) or gallbladder issues back then but certainly educated myself after his passing. I have definitely learned lots more through this thread so if I ever have to face any of these health issues again I will be prepared. And as everyone has said we all love you and are keeping positive thoughts for you both.
