One-year-old Sheltie 3 weeks post orthopedic surgery on acepromazine not eating much; is this normal

Thanks to all of you who are so thoughtful and helpful. Onward and upward, I hope, with Fainly. One more surgery to go and then we hope we're finished at least for a whlie. He's just 41/2 weeks past this one so we're hoping he'll get his collar off and have a couple of weeks break before the next one, at least.

Just a note re vaccines, since you mentioned Fainly only getting rabies. I never give more than one at a time to any of my dogs, healthy or not. If there's a reaction, you don't know which one it's to or what you're treating. The practice of giving two or three at once is a terrible idea.

Washington State is where our tests were done.
Same with us. Brodie's parents were tested but since it was my first dealing with my breeder, I had him tested anyway. I did not bother with Deacon - I just asked if the dad had been tested which he had been.

I never give more than one at a time to any of my dogs, healthy or not.
My vets only do 1 shot per visit, wait two weeks, do another.

Exactly, Ann, I could not agree more! I never ever would give more than one vaccine at a time! I learned my lesson here on Sheltie Nation! So many vets push multiple vaccines! Hard stop NO WAY for my boys! Getting Titer testing is now a standard procedure for me now! So much great advice for you and Fainly! Thanks for keeping us posted on his progress! Fingers crossed all goes well with his recovery! Blessing to you both! Virtual hugs

I agree that if he isn’t losing weight, he is probably ok.
Is he on an anti-inflammatory drug? They can upset the stomach and reduce appetite. Kip doesn’t tolerate NSAIDs and loses his appetite.

When my dog Jessie had ACL surgery she lost her appetite due to depression. It slowly came back as she felt better and was able to do more of her old activities.

I hope Fainly continues to heal and feel better!
