Our 14 week old puppy broke her left back leg :(

ohh poor puppy!!! Hope surgery goes well for you!! The hardest part is going to be keeping her quiet during the recovery time!!

I agree with who ever posted about freak things causing injuries, ive seen simple slips/falls/tumbles resulting in broken parts...its just one little wrong turn to break...I had one of my dogs slip on my wood floor a few weeks back and was limping for days...I thought they broke something..since usually its a limp for a few hrs back to normal but this one went on for a few days....glad he recovered..

So sorry for your pup. You will be surprised at how quickly she will recover. Our sheltie fell down the steps and dislocated her shoulder. Like your pup she was in a lot of pain an did bite me b/c of it. Once her shoulder was fixed and she was in a cast her pain was significantly better. Took a few days for her to learn how to walk with the cast but before we knew it she was easily getting around. The hardest part was keeping her from running and jumping once the cast was off. Please keep us posted on her surgery.

hope the surgery goes well! I would suggest this will be a GREAT time to get her crate-trained. She needs to be kept quiet and comfortable. You will find she will actually LOVE her crate once she gets used it.

Sorry to hear about your little pup.

My boy Birch's dad Grizz broke his leg as a 10 week old puppy when another dog stomped on him. He fully recovered and is only a major from his Championship and particapates in agility and obedience without any issue. In fact, he can jump straight up into the air to almost shoulder height if he thinks you have a ball. '

i hope your puppy has a successful surgery and recovery.

Well Just got back from the Vet!

Milli doesnt seem to be in pain anymore. No more loud crying. Shes in her Crate sleeping at the moment. It looks soo uncomfortable for her with the Cast. The crate just seems kinda small now... Shes rolling over and her leg gets caught on the side wall hahah. She can roll over completely.

I know i probably shouldnt put puppie pads in the crate and encourage her to pee there but She cant stand or move around really. and shes just peeing laying down... and when she tries to move around it looks like shes going to hurt herself because shes frustrated that her cast leg isnt following her and shes forcing harder . I'll just have to keep an eye on her. Really wonder how shes going to do her number 2s .

The Vet did some blood tests today to check. She's low on calcium and some other nutrients so we need to change her diet and give her extra calcium to encourage better bone growth/ formation.

Time for her to rest and get better! We have vet apointments everyday in the next 3 days to remove sutures, and probably adjust the cast and what not. Next week we start to vaccinate her. Never ending vet trips with this little pup =).

I'm so glad to hear Milli's surgery is over and she's on the road to recovery. She will adjust to her cast, don't worry...it might take a day or two but they do figure it out. Meantime do try to keep her confined and quiet because it will help her heal. She may need a slightly bigger crate though, or maybe an indoor x-pen that you can put a bed and her toys in but still keep her quiet.

I wouldn't worry about using puppy pads at this point...you do what you have to so she's comfortable and that might be the easiest way to keep the crate clean until she can manage to stand.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

What a pretty girl. Glad everything went well. Never apologize for what you need to do at the time to take good care of your pup. If you need to use puppy pads for now, use them. I would.

I agree with Ann. I would get an ex pen and put the bottom half of a crate with bedding in there. Put the bowls in the back against the wall so she is less likely to jump on them. Use a pee pad to one side if you can. She looks like a cutie. You must be relieved that the wait is over. I know I am and I wasn't even there! How horrible for the two of you. Healing thoughts for a speedy and uneventful recovery.
