Our Gentle Dakota...yesterday we had to say good-bye to our sweet boy. He was such a special soul.

Still thinking of you Trini, and I feel sad for you and Dante. When Asta left us suddenly Ally was bereft. She searched all over for her. Absolutely broke our hearts and I cried buckets. It is such a gut punch when something like medications arriving after they are gone happens. We had that happen also when Ally passed. Just know the Sheltie Nation family is here to help lift you up and please let us know how you are doing.

Thoughts and prayers are with you. I just recently lost my Cody and I know how absolutely devastating it can be. My other sheltie Jesse was depressed for over a month and kept looking for Cody especially in the morning and evenings. He would go to the two places where Cody use to lay and sniff and sigh and look at me like "where did he go?" It was very sad. I pray that you have peace knowing you gave Dakota a wonderful life.

Gloria, I have delivered your soft pat to little Dante. :)

Sharon and Pomshe, Ally's searching for her Astra and Jesse looking for Cody is so typical for these doggies who have formed such deep bonds. They simply don't understand why their companion is no longer here and it is heartbreaking...and there is no way to explain it to them. These bonds are so special and beautiful but bring great grief when one of them is gone.

I think Dante is slowly accepting that his Dakota is not coming back, but he is very subdued and needs constant loving for comfort. Thankfully he is eating normally which was a worry for the first couple of days after Dakota's death. One day at a time for all of us.

Thank-you for the words of support.

Hi Darren, I gather Monty recently provided more than licks to patrons at an outdoor dining area! LOL Reading the account of that incident brought me the first good laugh since we lost our little Dakota. SO happy to hear that naughty Monty is back to his antics. WTG Monty!!!

I am so sorry to hear this. It broke my heart when my childhood dog died some years ago (my first and so far only dog loss). He was simply beautiful though. I hope Dante is comfortable and has an easy passing when it’s his time.

Thank-you Diana. A childhood dog is SO hard to lose. As very young children we can't imagine a time when that loving little friend won't be by our side and their loss is a very hard lesson in the reality of life. But having a pet you loved as a child is also one of the most precious gifts...it teaches us that there can be unconditional love, it teaches us compassion and responsibility...and in the end it teaches us that life is not something to take lightly...every moment is to be cherished because sadly all life ends at some point.
