Our sheltie won't his water

My wife did go out, and get a new bowl on the chance it might create a renewed water drinking interest. He barked at it as if it were a cat! No interest in using it though. I'm afraid it will become part of our collection of dog related paraphernalia. Curiously he refused beef broth, chicken broth is the stuff. Over night he didn't drink any water (8 hour period) which is always available in his sleeping area (basically a den in our basement).
In general he is his old self...plays ball, barks at squirrels, rabbits, cats...all the usual backyard invaders. Gobbles up his food, and that chicken broth. Sleep quietly for 8 hours. Things could be worse I suppose.

Update...Lucky has decided to drink his water again. Happened last evening, and my wife said he just drank from his usual water bowl which also had ice cubes in it which she has provided to make it more tempting. Apparently it did just that. We have made all the other broth bowls go away so he has only this one option for a drink. He seem to be back on his regular habit finally. We are relieved and happy for him as well. Thank you to all who gave us good advice on the matter. So wonderful to see Lucky return to normal...:)

Now Lucky is showing signs of Kennel cough. I left a message with his Vet...hopefully he will call back soon. Poor lucky never complains...just looks pathetic. It's not the first time he has had it, and it is always after being boarded at the same kennel. I'm thinking I may try to find a friend who could baby sit him in the future. Someone with a personal connection who would treat him better.

Dang it! That's why it's called kennel cough. Poor guy. Ask around for petsitters - we have an awesome one who moves into our house while we are gone. That way the dogs are still in their familiar environment. Check on Nextdoor if you are on that, or ask at your vet's office. I hope Lucky feels better soon.

That's a shame, Bob. Does Lucky get the kennel cough intranasal vaccine (Bordatella)? Most kennels won't take dogs without it. That would give him some protection. But I agree with Sharon, and your thought of having someone private take him. Some of the techs in my vet's office petsit, so that's a good place to ask. Give Lucky a pat for us!
 
Lucky gets all vet recommended shots including the Bordatella potion which judging by the numerous times poor Lucky, and other Shelties we've had catch the Kennel Cough doesn't seem to help. Nevertheless we follow the rules, and cross our fingers the day we go pickup our dog at the kennel that all went well and he is healthy. Sometimes he is and other time he has the cough.

Vet put him on two things...one is doxy something and the other is Benadryl. He should be ok and in fact other than the cough he seem fine. But I come from a long line of rule followers, and so Lucky will be on the schedule the Vet prescribed. But as I mentioned before we have decided to abandon the kennel boarding, and will pursue other caregiver in the future. Thanks everyone.
