Our sheltie won't his water

Lucky gets all vet recommended shots including the Bordatella potion which judging by the numerous times poor Lucky, and other Shelties we've had catch the Kennel Cough doesn't seem to help. Nevertheless we follow the rules, and cross our fingers the day we go pickup our dog at the kennel that all went well and he is healthy. Sometimes he is and other time he has the cough.

Vet put him on two things...one is doxy something and the other is Benadryl. He should be ok and in fact other than the cough he seem fine. But I come from a long line of rule followers, and so Lucky will be on the schedule the Vet prescribed. But as I mentioned before we have decided to abandon the kennel boarding, and will pursue other caregiver in the future. Thanks everyone.

sounds like doxycycline- pretty standard for kennel cough.
the problem with the Bordetella vaccine is that there are many strains much like the flu so if your dog is exposed to a strain that wasn't in the vaccine, they will likely develop symptoms..........

Now Lucky is showing signs of Kennel cough. I left a message with his Vet...hopefully he will call back soon. Poor lucky never complains...just looks pathetic. It's not the first time he has had it, and it is always after being boarded at the same kennel. I'm thinking I may try to find a friend who could baby sit him in the future. Someone with a personal connection who would treat him better.

Awww poor guy! He just can’t catch a break!
At least you know what to do after having been through it once already.
Piper had it once, I would mix up lemon and honey and squirt it in his mouth (with a syringe) to soothe his throat. Hopefully there are no complications and he’ll be back to normal soon!

Lucky is responding to his meds thankfully. But I found out something from my wife. Yes lucky drinks his water again... and I'm happy about that, but can you believe he has a particular bowl he drinks from and no other. We have a set of four bowls all the same color and size...like cereal bowls. One is his water bowl. I went to take him out on the deck for a brushing, and she said don't forget his bowl...I said he has one on deck already. Same shape and color but she says he will refuse water from that one. She was right too. Smelled it several times. But not even a quick slurp. I toss his deck ball around and he plays that game. But would not drink. Came back downstairs and drank from "his bowl". My wife says I told you. Crazy stuff. I want to help her with Lucky but he may become "her dog" if this continues.

Dogs sure can have quirky habits! Having multiple dogs here seems to help keep them at bay! Only problem I have is keeping Piper and Finnie out of Blueberry’s crate or pen when I take her out! They know she gets good chews and are little thieves lol!

Someone gave us a ceramic bowl with Shelties on it, so I put that between the entrance and the living room, and Faith has decided that's the bowl she will drink from. Drank for years from the other one in the dining room. No idea why. Quirky for sure.

In the Quirks Department, there's fussy and then there's fussy. Sprite wants her water served fresh, thank you, straight from the tap. We have a bowl upstairs and one in the kitchen for them. When we wake up in the morning, Sprite will march into the bathroom and sniff the water bowl, then stand and wait (I can practically see her paw tapping) until I pour a fresh bowl. THEN she will have her morning drink. She also has to be first there when it's poured fresh downstairs! :rolleyes2:

Spitfire drinks more water than 5 shelties, always has. Early on I thought he might have an infection, nope. When he gets breakfast he drinks the entire bowl. He will go through 3-4 more during the day including drinking the entire bowl at dinner.
