Persistent cough with NO diagnosis after 8 months

Trini, we had a CT scan. I'm assuming the whole organ thing is different?

Talked to my regular vet today. He said the condition of Rogue's small intestine was worrisome. When Doc says he's worried, then so am I! So we may have to put the cough on the back burner to figure out what to do about the small intestine.

Biopsy results will be back Fri or Monday. So more info then. I'm just praying that it's something simple that can be rectified easy.

The "c" word was mentioned. But we're not having any part of that. We refuse.

I don't know what parts of the body the CT scan covered on your little Rogue. Ultrasound is often used to take a look at internal organs as it gives a good view of soft tissue. Here is an easy to read, yet comprehensive, article on the comparison/difference between a CT and an ultrasound.

It is emotionally so devastating to have a little dog you love in trouble medically and not being able to determine why. My heart really goes out to you on this and I pray when you do find out what is wrong that it is something treatable.

Thanks Trini.

He is not debarked. Oh no. This is the barkiest Sheltie I've had up to this point. He definitely gets an A in barking. :)

We should learn the results of the biopsies on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

My guy's cough is starting to come back again now that he is off the steroids. I'm hoping to do something less systemic and dangerous with him so am going to start him on Flovent. I'm hoping that will work. Not sure how I will get the first doses in him. If it appears that it will work, I am going to order a mask that is specifically made for inhalers.

I just started taking Advair for my asthma, and the first couple of days it gave me a severe tickling sensation in my throat that caused me to cough like a consumptive in a Dostoyevsky novel. I believe Advair and Flovent are pretty much the same except that Advair contains salmeterol. However I don't think it was the salmeterol that made me cough, because I've been using that for years with no problem.

Incidentally, I took a look at some of the OTC prices for Advair, and they shocked me.

No cancer! Rogue does not have cancer! I'm so relieved. He has inflammatory bowel disease. Will be talking to my own vet later on today about treatment.

NOW the specialist wants to do the scope up the nose. OMG! I've tried TWO freakin' times to get her to do this. BOTH times she said that's what she was going to do. She did NOT do it.

I'm sh*tty about that.

BUT I think she's a pretty good vet. She just doesn't want to do anything more than is absolutely necessary. I understand that too. But everyone was on the same page as thinking this WAS necessary.

At any rate, I am relieves that it isn't cancer.

That is wonderful news that Rogue doesn't have cancer...what a huge relief!!! :smile2: My Pixie has IBD, dx'd several years ago, and with careful diet restrictions she is doing well. There is no cure, but IBD is manageable and Rogue can go on to have a full and good quality life. This links to an excellent article on IBD and management. Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Thanks, Trini! And I have IBS so I at least have a clue.

NOW she says she wants to do the scope into his nose and into his lungs. My doctor said he wasn't very nice when he talked to her yesterday so he is sure she will do it correctly this time. But he was sure the last 2 times after he talked to her.

I'm having serious trust issues on this one, I can tell you!

Ok, the rhinoscopy and the brachioscopy (I know I spelled those wrong) are scheduled for Tues, Mar. 17.

Up the nose and down into the lungs. Doing the wash when she gets there.

She promised me that she would do both this time. I told her I did NOT want to have to keep putting my baby under! Scares me a lot!

So fingers crossed please. Prayers appreciated.
