Piper news?

I was just going to post that same link. Wow. Enough of the tricks and lies and whining. The dog had an owner pure and simple and despite all the evidence presented early on they kept the dog. I am glad the judge had no time for it.

I think back to last April when this case started. Starting in about Feb. or March last year I was watching Petfinder for a young male sheltie in rescue. Then this case hit. How I got my Melli seemed eerily like Piper. Stray to AC to rescue to me in less than 2 weeks. I did hunt for a long time to see if anyone was missing Melli and saw none. Right after this case hit, I started looking for a "new" instead of "used" sheltie. I am glad I have my Cubby, but who knows what life I could have saved. I have had 5 rescues and they have all been amazing in one way or another. I don't have any problem at all with breeders, having bred and shown cats in my past, but I believe in rescue for my own pet needs. Yet, I bought a pup. The idea of dog-flipping never occurred to me until this. Now it is well known. OMG could my Quasar have been flipped? Or Melli? I do know the circumstances on the other 3 of my rescues. I will never adopt again unless I am 1000% certain of the circumstances of how the dog landed in rescue.

I don't want to bad-mouth Penny because the case is not over, but I can say this case and others like it are turning people from rescue to breeders and, God help us, puppy millers and private dog flippers. This case and others have and will continue to cost dog lives. I am thrilled Veronica has Piper. That is what is right. Penny should be ashamed at bringing this issue out and hurting the rescue system which she purportedly believed in.

I will say that I am very disappointed in the people who went over to the KPS page and rubbed it in their faces. Yes Veronica has Piper, but there's a good chance this is not over if the judge allows the appeal. It just doesn't make Veronica or her supporters look good when they do that. It's just childish.

I had not heard about this story until yesterday. All I can say is wow... Reading all of this made me so angry. I am glad she finally has her baby back now, but an appeal, really?! This entire thing makes me so sick and is ridiculous and I know many of you all feel this way. I am going to make sure I have all of my paper work, pictures, vet documents, and microchip checked and up to date at all times incase this were to ever happen. No one should ever have to go through this nightmare, no one. I am hoping the appeal gets denied. :fl I will be outraged if it is granted and lose even more faith in the justice system...

But NONE of the behavior in this has been exactly "adult"...An adult would have NOT played the games. Adult behavior would have dealt with the "mixup" immediately when Piper was taken from the Franklin shelter place. An adult would have gotten in touch with the Vet and made SURE that this dog was truly a rescue candidate...because an adult would UNDERSTAND rehoming, or withholding a pet from it's true owner is SPITEFUL behavior...and borderline kidnapping, stealing and all things not responsible. If it is NOT yours, you do NOT take it, or you make REAL sure that circumstances are in favor of you being in guardian mode.

I agree. The person who was at fault here was the Sheltie rescue owner. She was really atrocious. Her behavior bordered on psychotic.

I believe in always trying to be the bigger person (as hard as it is, and sometimes I fail at this). The bigger person doesn't go on the opposition's facebook page and post "neener neener neener!" comments about Veronica's win. Just because they are/have been childish, doesn't mean Veronica's supporters have to. That's what I was trying to say.

I am thrilled that Piper is home. You can see the joy on both faces. I am involved in dog rescue & concentrate on shelties. Never would I have kept a dog from its owner unless extreme neglect & even then would have done it legally only if the dog was in danger. This was not the case with Piper.

Just like in anything there are crazy people in the rescue world. I have met a few but always the best interests of the dog should come before personalities of the people. The only winner here should be the dog.

I hope people write the judge that handed down this decision. He is to be commended for following the law & taking emotions out of it.

It is very hard to rationalize the behavior of the "rescue" (I hesitate to use the word because it is so far from legitimate rescue behavior) other than to assume that the purpose of kidnapping Piper was solely because Veronica is a breeder, and in the mind of this person and her followers, breeders are the devil. According to them, there are no good breeders. Only rescue is worthwhile. It's the new militant mindset of some rescue people that is really dangerous, and this case is proof of that. Since their legal costs have been financed by the AR organizations, this theory certainly appears to make sense.

The shame of all this is the damage that's been done to real rescues, and the dogs that need their help. Mom2Melli said it well in describing how uneasy she would feel about taking a dog whose history is unknown. I'm afraid many people will feel that way because of this woman's irrational actions.

And now, the appeal is scheduled for August 27. As if Veronica and Piper haven't had enough.

Wow... I can't believe the appeal was granted. Veronica won’t even be able to relax now. Why is this not done and over with already?
