Please help, I lost my baby today!!!!!!!!!!

My Heart Aches with you !!

Hello, I am new. I lost my sheltie today. He got off lead and ran into the street. He was hit instantly. I am heartbroken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love him so much, everything keeps going over and over in my mind, like a nightmare. Any words of comfort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just as Chris has stated below :
Please know we all stand with you in your grief. Here you will find compassion, understanding and a total absence of judgment and blame. May God and St. Francis comfort you
There are no words that can be said to mend your heart just knowing we feel your loss with you at this sorrowful time.

Their is a website called Sheltie Angels that has grief counseling and helped me to get over the loss of my shelties. Hope that will help you too, but please come back and talk with us. There are a lot of caring people here.
God Bless You.

Thank you for all the support!

Days are getting better, but I miss him. They called yesterday to pick up his ashes and I found excuses all day not to go. I do want him with me though. It's hard, but it would be even harder if I did not have all you to talk to. Thank you so much for all your posts. You are all very sweet, as our favorite breed. I thought you might want to know that I have another bi blue boy coming, his name will be Cash. I have pictures but I do not know how to post them yet. He will be coming home early March. Gracie is a bit lonely, I see the pain in her eyes sometimes. She shares my grief but soon she will dance again.

Oh that's so wonderful that you've already found a new furkid to fill the empty place in your heart.

Was he already "in the works" before your pup died?

When we lost Lassie, our Collie, we received her ashes and buried them in our back glen. Now we take the Shelties to visit her regularly, and the pain has faded to lovely memories.

So glad that you have Cash to look forward to. He won't replace your beloved pup, but he will certainly help you deal with the loss. I found this after agonizing over how soon to get a puppy after losing one of mine. A puppy just demands so much of your attention that it really does help fill the gap, and you can't help but open your heart to that little ball of fluff. Send us pictures when you have some! :smile2:

If only...

Bonnie ran away and was hit by a car.

For year's I held myself to blame over her death and nothing my parents could ever say would convince me that I hadn't killed her.

You ask yourself over and over: If only, if only, if only....!". I've now discovered that this is a pointless exercise. We can learn from the things that happen to us and our loved ones, but take that learning and look forward.

I'm not religious particularly, but I do believe that things happen for a reason....perhaps we'll never know what the reason is exactly
I don't know if this helps. But it's helped me to rationalize somewhat the losses that I had this year - that perhaps there is a greater good that comes out of it.

I'm so sorry about your tragedy. Sudden deaths are so hard and there's always the 'what if's'. With Ty I was in the hospita,l and found out there. With Sophie I didn't find out what had happened to her until after I got out of the burn unit. My guilt with Ty is not being there, with Sophie its why I couldn't turn back to get her. I didn't know that I was on fire and was in a state of shock. Although regarding 'things happen for a reason' the only consolation I can allow myself is that because I was flat on my back for a year and a half I would have had no way to care for her. But still... today is the 5th anniversary of Sophie's death.

Just to clarify - my Bonnie story is 40 years ago! (Yikes, I'm getting old!)

But I do believe that things do happen for a reason

The more recent example is this: My 19 year old daughter, Michelle, died in March 2008. My beloved Sheltie, Timber, who was 12 or 13 (I can never remember which) died in May 2008. (It will be his anniversary in just a couple of days). I was devasted by the two deaths, one after the other. Then my sister wrote me to say:

That Michelle must have called Timber up to keep her company while she waited for the rest of us to join her. The two of them are waiting for us on the Bridge....

I take great comfort that my two beloved's are there together.

I hope this helps.

Please go pick up your Austins ashes. I know it's difficult but it helps. When I went to pick up my Jewels ashes I held them and cried for hours till there were just no tears left. But it helps you through the grieving process. I can promise it does get easier with time. But you will always want to remember the great times you had with Your Aussie Bear. Give extra hugs to your other Sheltie who is also grieving. give yourself the time needed to grieve and please don't think it's silly, it's not we love our furkids as parts of our families. That's what makes it so hard to let go.

The Pain

The PAIN is oh so real. I am still very raw over loosing my Sheltie of 14 years just 2 months ago. I have to say, I have lit a candle in my home EVERYDAY since her passing. I am devistated! It is very TOUGH to get through and unless you have been through it you DO NOT understand. She was the love of my life. She was my friend! She was my little shadow! She went everywhere with me. As sad as I feel I know she is out of pain and in a better place. She is there with her mom, dad and her big brother. She gave me 14 wonderful years! What more could I ask for?
We have decided to get a new pup. Emmy (my 14 yr old) would have wanted it that way! She knew how much love I had to give. She knew how happy I was with a dog. The thought of the new pup has helped me to focus on something besides the pain. It has given me new life. And my old girl would have wanted it that way.
Do not think that for a moment that you could have changed a thing. We all know that when it is our time...It is our time. We never know when that time will come. Spend it happy! Get a pup and share that love that the dog you lost would want you to. make new memories. Do it for the memory of your old dog. God bless you hun! I can feel your pain.
