Poop Size?

I didn't know shelties could have big poops!! Okay, let's have a big poop list and a small poop list, along with the foods given.
  • Sandstorm- small poops-blue buffalo lamb and brown rice

I feed raw and the poops are very small, as big round as my little finger about 1.5-2 in long. Half the time unless I am right there I have trouble finding it. It is also firm and not very moist.

When they were eating kibble(nature's variety), the stool volume was easily 3x what it is now. I can use 1 poop bag to pick up all 3 dogs stool at a show and it will not be as much as 1 dog before. Most of the times even less. Definitely one of the big advantages of raw.

I think I'm reading into this that the less fiber the less poop.

But is that a good thing? Can it lead to constipation? That's never been a problem in my house.

I know for sure when my dogs were on Orijen there poop was smaller and firmer, but the dogs were also smaller and firmer

I'd like to find a happy balance, and am now seriously thinking about switching foods.

I have never had problems with constipation. The bone in meal provide bulk (fiber)to the stools if you are feeding too much bone you will notice white chalky stools and then you know you need to back off. If you are not feeding enough bone then the stools will get loose. There is just little waste as the diet is digested so efficiently. If I do get constipation I would just add a little liver and that will get things going.

My dogs generally only poop once a day usually in the morning.

Well maybe we all should keep weekly journal! Actually I Am kidding! But ...don't laugh I can walk this yard, I know who's poop is whose. They all do their thing in differant areas, they pretty much go in the same place.

Romeo and Juliet have small poop! Little round balls or at most pinky finger length poop. When I had fosters who were on good kibble, I could compare their poop and the kibble fed foster always had more poop per poop session and more poop sessions too. Depending on the kibble the poop is also incredibly stinky. Then, I would inevitably go :dead::dead::dead: and feed raw to the foster and the poop changes dramatically (after the initial transition phase), to less and smaller pieces.

And yes, I can also tell whose poop it is. Mothers know ALL!

Those of you on TOTW - big poops or little poops?

If I switch from Now! this is probably my first choice.

Or am I wrong about the size of their poop and the choice of kibble?

I feed TOTW and my dogs poops are small and hard. They are never soft, and they go once a day (in the morning). I am a big fan of the food. I do not feed one variety, I alternate before all four of the varieties with 75% of the mix being from the two that have the lower protein levels (the fish and the lamb ones).

The only thing I notice is when they are eating the fish one, Dandie will get stinky fish farts the first couple of days :eek2: They be nasty :dead:

I think Randi and Michele also feed TOTW. Not sure if they still do. It would be interesting to hear their views on it.

See, now that's a loaded question. lol.

Because I fed my boys EVO and Orijen, if I compare TOTW, well, they poop more and it's bigger (even if it's still firm). When they were on EVO/Orijen, we're talking, small, compact, but still about 1-2". Wonder how their poop would be if they were on grained food. Ugh!

Now I'm debating about going to Acana again. Darn all these poop/food threads.
