Poop Size?

I feed TOTW and my dogs poops are small and hard. They are never soft, and they go once a day (in the morning). I am a big fan of the food. I do not feed one variety, I alternate before all four of the varieties with 75% of the mix being from the two that have the lower protein levels (the fish and the lamb ones).

The only thing I notice is when they are eating the fish one, Dandie will get stinky fish farts the first couple of days They be nasty

I think Randi and Michele also feed TOTW. Not sure if they still do. It would be interesting to hear their views on it.

This is why Barb's question doesn't have a "right" answer. My dogs are on TOTW also. Bentley gets around 2/3 C per day, and Lexi gets 1 C per day. Bentley poops twice a day, and Lexi 3 times.

Once a day....not one poop

I wasn't clear on that. Dandie actually does 5 turds that are smaller than my thumb. Chloe does about three turds that are the size of my thumb.

Your dogs also eat more than mine do. It is definitely a question that has no "right" answer. You are spot on.

If you do, don't forget to use one of those ruler type things that you see on CSI, lol. Otherwise, how are we going to judge size?

I just took a picture of Juliet's poop last night, with a coin next to it to show size (couldn't find a ruler)! If anyone wants to see it....

Yes we did feed TOTW,but recently made a change.As with loss of 1 income we needed to find something a little more economical for 4 dogs.

But while on TOTW,all pups went 2x a day.The more substancial poop was in the mornings. But the size for Trapp & Jasper was only 1 piece about 3".An about size of my thumb around.So not to big.

Earnhardt's of course was larger,but he is a larger dog.But only 1 piece. I found Mia's to be more hard than the others,she seemed to need a bit of pumpkin.Jasper & Mia did not do well on the lamb formula,whatsoever.I had to finish that bag between Trapp & Earnhardt.

We are feeding 4health at the moment.They have been on it over a month.I have found that Mia's poop is better.It has not affected the other 3. All still go 2x a day.

The switch in food,was difficult for me,but I felt we needed to do something.And was really amazed that we had no tummy issues.

Riley is on TOTW also. I noticed a significant difference in poop since we transitioned him to it. He was on Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul and had softer, larger (?) poos. Since we transitioned to TOTW (high plains right now) his poos are firmer and more compact. I do give him pumpkin on and off because his poop sometimes seem too compact his poos are smaller than they were on he other food (had grain).

I am assuming that they are a smaller size than others since they are actually smaller then our neighbor's dog, who is smaller than Riley. I am not a good judge since any of Riley's poo is smaller then my previous dog (a huge lab)

He does poo between 2-4 times a day on 3/4c food, but he's still a pup, so it may change. This thread mirrors me and my DH talking about Riley's poop!!

It's also the main topic of conversation in our house... I think one tends to talk a lot about poop when you're trying to sort out your puppy's diet, how much food, etc... Add to that a puppy with chronic diarrhea and all you ever talk about is poop!!!!

I'm definitely thinking about giving TOTW a try. I just think two Shelties both pooping 3 inch poops, 2.5 thumbs wide is crazy! Plus not as firm as they used to be.

Time to switch things up, I think. Does anyone recommend another grain-free, lower protein brand?
