Prayers for Logan please...

Gosh, I missed a couple of pages of posts and missed the new problems. Five meals is a darn good sign.

Maybe Ann can answer this better - but could milk thistle help? I think it was Ann who put me onto it for liver/gallbladder for Tully.

You're right, Caro. I don't know if I suggested the Marin Plus we use for liver/gallbladder/kidneys to Gloria, only because of his other medical issues. I don't think milk thistle ever hurts and can certainly help, but I wouldn't add a supplement at this point without talking to the vet, just in case it would conflict with other meds. Once he's over the pancreatitis though, I would certainly put him on a good milk thistle product.

Actually, he has stopped eating again.

I opened 4 different cans of food and he did not want any of them. Worse yet, his stool is really soft. I tried to give him his diarrhea meds in a pill pocket. He would not touch that either. Normally he snarfs that down with no issues.

The only thing I can think of is he might be in pain. But he is not breathing fast or acting like he is in pain at all.

I am just going to wait him out. Will talk to the vet again on Monday to see where we go from here!

Roller coaster is right, I can remember so well just praying for stable, not even improvement. Gloria, all of us are on this journey with you. Your boy is so lucky to have you. :hugs

I ran errands and came home to feed everyone lunch. Again, Logan would not eat. Tried to hand feed him and no go.

I was so exhausted I took a nap on the sofa which I rarely ever do. Baron and Beau must have felt my anxiety as the both laid so close to me, actually touching me. I don’t know how long I was asleep for but I woke up to Logan pawing me from the floor!

I was shocked as he had been sleeping all day with little energy. It was 4:00 so I thought maybe he was hungry. I put just a tiny spoonful of food in his bowl and he ate it! I thought great... let me put a bit more... he ate that too! So, I got another 1/2 can in him!

I can’t tell you how relieved I was! I will try again tonight as only 3/4 of a can is not enough. I am just so thankful he ate!

Waking me up was such a surprise! Maybe he just needed extra rest today?
If he eats I am not as anxious!

I also ordered the milk thistle!

Wow, such a roller coaster! I know it's so difficult, not knowing what will happen moment to moment. Glad to hear he wanted to eat today after all :-)

Also, (and I'm sure you've checked on this but I feel I would be remiss if I didn't mention it) please make sure you check with your vet's office before using the milk thistle. It's known to help the liver - but with Logan having so many issues all at once, it would be good to double check that it won't interfere with any medications he's on and won't be contraindicated for any of his medical conditions.

I'm so glad to hear that Logan had some food. I'm so sorry you're having these ups and downs, Gloria. It must be completely exhausting for you. And why do they always happen on a weekend?! Is there some internal Sheltie Schedule that says if we're going to be sick, it must be on a weekend when the vet is closed?? Yeesh. Poor you! :gaah

I hope he keeps eating and the rest of the weekend goes smoothly. Sending you hugs!

Cara, I definitely will... I assumed since it was natural it would be ok. When you get desperate you want to try anything to make things better! Thanks for the heads up! Will talk to the vet on Monday!

Trust me - natural is NOT NOT NOT always ok!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the biggest myths out there. Natural things can be every bit as dangerous - and sometimes more so - than any prescription on the market. I see this all the time on my job (pharmaceutical research) and supplements and herbs have killed people way more times than I can count. Plus, supplements are not regulated and tested the way prescriptions and over the counter medications are, so there can be a HUGE amount of variance in what the package says and what you're getting. I personally do not give my dogs anything "natural" for this very reason. It's just too risky.
