Prayers for Logan please...

Now he won’t take his pills! He was always so good when I put them in pill pockets! Now he is wise to it. I tried to put it in his mouth and close it and hope he would eat it. He just spit it out! Now he is mad at me! Not going to do that again. Maybe I can try to hide it in his wet food if he eats tomorrow. Other than that all I can think to do is get that long tube that looks like a syringe. I hate forcing them in him...

Will he take them if you hide them in a bit of boiled chicken or even a tiny little sliver of hot dog? Usually when I'm try to trick Spirit into taking pills I will give her a bite of fresh chicken, another bite of fresh chicken, then a bite of chicken that has a pill in it, then a piece of just chicken. That has always worked. With Skylar, well, the dog will eat ANYTHING - literally, she'll eat anything - which is a blessing and a curse. She takes pills without a problem. Of course, this is also the dog who had stomach surgery after she snatched a piece of corn cob off the sidewalk...... And thinks plastic is a delicacy - so she can only have super strong rubber toys designed for dogs such as rottweilers......

Have you tried peanut butter for the pills? Or is that too high fat? A teeney bit to coat the pill, and then I scrape it on the roof of the mouth.

Also, is it possible for you to give subQ fluids? From what I'm told he can absorb those more easily than IV fluids so it's not as taxing to his heart. Maybe that's something else to check on with the vet to keep him feeling better. I have had a diabetic dog in the past and had to give him his insulin subQ. It was actually very, very easy to do and my dog didn't even seem to notice it happening.

It worked!!! I did hide the pill in chicken and he ate it immediately! Thanks.

I do not think hot dogs and peanut butter will work as they are too high in fat.

I asked the vet about subQ fluids and he said he did not need them yet. He will have a blood panel on Monday to see where we are with his numbers.

We also had a little female Sheltie I had to give insulin shots to. So I know I could do subQ if needed.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!! Great news!!!!!!!! I would just make sure that you give him some bites of chicken without pills as well (they can be tiny little bites) so he doesn't put 2 and 2 together that chicken also means pills......

Also, when I suggested a sliver of hot dog, I literally meant a sliver. I use them for agility treats for my dogs. I get somewhere around 100 pieces out of every hot dog. So I don't think that would be risky for him BUT the chicken is definitely a better option.

Unfortunately the pills he needs are huge. He has at least 6 a day!

Logan won’t eat again this morning. Offered him 4 wet foods and even boiled chicken.

My gut is telling me this is the beginning of the end. I just don’t believe he wants to try anymore.

Every time I hospilize him he is good for a few days but we are back to the same place. Not wanting to eat.

I can’t stop Mother Nature.

Understanding that euthanasia is my next step is heart wrenching. But, I just can’t watch him starve to death either.

He keeps to himself in the bathroom, not eating, no real joy in his attitude.

Maybe he will eat a little today but certainly not enough to keep him alive.
Since all of these organs are compromised my vet was suspecting cancer being the underlying cause. That said, it is just a guess and I can’t put him through more tests when any outcome is so uncertain at his advanced age.

Wish I had better news to report... So sad...
