Rough Play

My boys can get really rough. They get into it because they both would like to be the leader. I can tell when it is about to get rough by listening to them. Pal doesn't always know when to quit and Maverick will let him know it is time. If I a make a loud noise or just say "QUIT IT" in a different tone of voice they stop. I try to stop before they really fight. But after they get into it they are fine and go right back to playing. Maybe because they are both so young.

Ryder howls when he plays with a squeek toy.
I have to get this on video, but ofcourse he never does it when I want him to:smile2:but he cant get enough when we are trying to watch TV:lol:

At puppy kindergarten the instructor had us pull the aggessor back from the other dog and if the other dog ran away it was too much and if they come back for more then it was ok.

I originally didn't have anything to add to this post, because Miko had never really shown a "rough" side. Well well well... my calm, gentle little guy has turned into a tiger overnight!! Last night at puppy kindergarten he was quite rough with the other sheltie in the group. He didn't seem to like her at all! He was snarling and barking at her whenever she'd join in the play with Miko and the other dogs. The trainer said that Miko is just teaching her that she's too rough for his liking... but to me it looked scary! I hope it's not a sign of things to come for his interactions with other dogs. :no:

Ryder is always snappy in class. With the small dogs he is fine but snappy with the big ones. At daycare/Kennel he is fine. Mostly keeps to himself but fine
 
Ummm! This topic has come up alot lately....maybe time for a sticky?

I know I've posted on this topic repeatedly, and also posted videos of my boys "rough-housing".

Yes....they play rough, and sometimes it hard to tell if they playing....but generally they will let the other pup know when they've had enough. That's my experience, at least. So I just let it got. Unless, of course, they are doing this on my bed...often the case...in which case I tell them to take their nonsense elsewhere, you fool dogs!

Yes, the trainer did say that Miko was just letting Darcy know that she was playing too rough for his liking... and to be honest, she got the hint and was much respectful after that. I guess it just sounds/looks worse than it is.
