Rug Digging

None my Shelties are rug diggers. My sister's black Lab she had as a teenager used to bury her treats. In the corner of the dining room. On hardwood floor. No carpets.
 
Well it runs in the family because Barkley's nephew here digs at the carpet, and as long as we see him when he does it, a "ah ah" stops him as long as we are in the room. Who knows what he does when we aren't looking!

BUT, he digs holes outside too!

Interesting...Barkley's litter mate and sister, Checkers, has absolutely no interest in digging anything, unless it's food from your hand. I wonder if it's a male gene, kind of like hogging the TV remote. :cool:

Barkley never digs outside. Being the pristine boy he is, he doesn't want to get his paws dirty, I guess. He prefers to dig in my nice, clean (yeah right) rugs! :rolleyes2:
 
There were a couple of holes in our yard. At first I pretty much assumed it was either Smudge or Fluffy. Now I think I have pinned it on the wrong animal.

Armadillos like to dig as well. :lol:
 
Maggie digs at the carpet before she lays down and soemtimes on our bed. Zak does some times but not as much. Katie used to do that laying on her side and scratching with her front legs and I have seen Zak do that a few times and it makes me smile. Have never had one that digs in the yard.
 
Molly will do it but only after she eats, and she will lie on her side and dig with her front paws....its funny to watch her go to town with only using her front legs...im assuming its her equivalent of nice meal thanks mom!!!:lol:
 
McKinley by no means got a clean gene from anyone. There is never a puddle or swamp that he could pass by without checking out. He loves to be messy.

Other than to wipe his face all over my sofa and love seat after a meal!
 
Both mine like to add a little twist to their digging in (case of one upmanship I think). When Deska digs he also nudges things around him with his nose so he clears the area. Tully digs then rolls around in the area she has dug in, then digs again - I guess its to test if the spot is comfortable enough, even when its the carpet she does it to. Its pretty cute.
 
I don't know if he's digging or eating the rug, but I've left Vash in his pen on the rug on a couple of occasions each time I come back and he's managed to put a hole down to the nylon backing. This last time it happened on an area of the rug that's not easily replaceable and considering I may have to sell the house I was less than amused.

He has tried to dig his way out of his x-pen before when outside so maybe that's what he is trying to attempt, but I can't really trust him on the rugs when I can't watch him like a hawk either.
 
Gibbs does it to random spots in the carpet... all over the carpet. He digs with both legs, and then chews a bit. So far it hasn't damaged the carpet because it's always in a new spot. It doesn't seem to be where he wants to lay down, and he doesn't do it in his crate. If I correct him, he will stop immediately. What's really weird, is that he tries to do it to the concrete patio too.
