I have tears in my eyes.

What a heartwarming story. Thanks so much for sharing it with us, and thank-you even more for taking in beautiful Sada. What a lucky gal she is.

What a beautiful story to go with a beautiful dog!! It is heart-warming to know that their are people like you looking out for the Sada's of this world. I hope that her wounds & bones heal quickly and that she settles in to spend her senior years surrounded by warmth and love.

    RE: Ontario Sheltie

The vet thinks she's 12+, but we really have very few good indications.

She's doing well, though a little stiff of late. I just cannot believe how happy and downright cheerful she's been. Seems like she can't get enough petting, and as soon as you stop, she'll paw you for more. She's very good at jabbing your shin with her paw 'til you notice her.

She obviously adores us as much as we adore her, but I find it odd that she really doesn't come into the bedroom with us at night. She sticks to the living room, kitchen, and entryway, rarely following us back to the bedroom. Any ideas why this may be? I just baby-gated her into the bedroom with her heating bed and she's still insisting on lying a foot from the baby gate at the entrance. I don't know if she's uncomfortable, or what... Very odd. We need to get stairs so she can get into bed with us, which she will do on occasion. I'd like her to have the option if she ever ventures ALL the way down the hallway to our bedroom.

Maybe she is returning the favor and making sure her humans are safe while they sleep and keeping an eye on things. You have obviously provided her the much needed safety and security she needed.

Thank you for sharing Sada's story, she is beautiful girl. Hopefully her coat will come better than ever and her bones mend well with good diet.
It is quite possible she was taught not to sleep in humans bedroom.. it possible she does not like warm places to sleep and looking for more drafty ones?
My pup is young one so its different story but he loves sleeping under door frames, door entrances, only sometimes he would come to the bedroom where he has his own bed. I was thinking as they get older pups should like warmer softer beds...
My friend has a ramp made from wood and old carpet for senior pups to come to the bed.
Best wishes for Sada quick recovery and healing!

I have dogs who won't sleep on the bed, I think they get too hot.

Callie only lays in her soft comfy bed for a short time- never all night. She prefers to sleep - bathroom (tile floor), living room or kitchen (laminate or linoleum). She was about 5 when I got her from sheltie rescue so no idea what her early life was like. I pretty much let her sleep wherever she wants.

Some Shelties are very independant. I have one that is a cuddler and sleeps on the bed and the other two sleep in different places in the house.
