Sorry I haven't been around much, my Grandfather passed away the day we returned from vacation. On top of that Sadie hasn't been well since Saturday, she's been vomiting and having diarrhea.
We buried my grandfather today and Sadie seems to be getting over what ever was bothering her, so that's two less things to deal with.
Sadie is about the same. We keep trying to wean her off of the prednisone but she gets weaker each time I make the reduction. I've up'd the dose a bit again, as she's been a bit wobblier.
I've been a bit worried about Sadie on an emotional level. The poor girl, the paralyzation of her hind end seems to have really destroyed her confidence.
Sadie no longer has any desire to play with Ginny or any of her dog friends. When she's around them she acts like they don't exist and she nips at Ginny when she tries to entice her to play.
She's also hesitant around people that she knows well, including my parents who she knows well. When they babysat her Sadie sat by the door looking for us, which is so totally unlike her, she usually LOVES visiting my parents.
When we're home she is my shadow. She always liked to be with me and always followed me around, but its more like she's to insecure to be by herself.
I'm staying positive and going about our everyday life as much as possible, but it just doesn't seem to be enough for her, even with extra encouragement. I've been taking her for short walks as the vet instructed but poor Sadie just seems bored.
I did manage to take her swimming today, which seemed to brighten her spirits. We were able to use our neighbor's pool and Sadie had a blast, after initially being afraid for a few minutes. Sadie seemed to have an extra spring in her step on her way home, so I'm going to try and take her for a swim every day if I can.
Does anyone have any ideas to help boost her confidence? I'm only allowed to take Sadie for short walks and swims.
