look for kikopup youtube videos how to pivot, walk between legs, limp, cross their paws. There is lots of good body/ legs awareness practice you can try

Thanks!

We've learned that at our advanced obedience class but haven't worked on it much. I practiced it more with Ginny than Sadie.

Sadie knows how to target with her nose and front feet but she's not ready to learn the back end yet, now that she's trying to relearn how to use her back legs.

I'd actually thought of working on that once she's a bit further along in her rehab so its good to know I'm not the only one thinking about it and that I'm on the right track. :smile2:

Thanks again for the link!

Its great to hear Sadie is still making forward progress, even if it has slowed a bit.

I'd love to see some video or pictures of her swimming around.

I'm so happy Sadie keeps progressing and is enjoying the pool. I'm sure swimming is giving her the much needed confidence and is helping immensely with her recovery. I love the exercise ideas your chiropractor gave you I'm going to try them with Chandler his left rear leg is still knuckling under at times. The woman you contacted about her sheltie did she have some posts about her sheltie somewhere I would love to read them if she does.

Sadie Chandler says keep the swimming and new exercises going you definitely have youth on your side. I'm getting up there in my years so I think you'll exceed my progress. If I didn't have Gypsy I'd be barking at the moon for you. Your sure are a cutie. oops mom says quit flirting gotta go.

Sadie is very lucky to have you as a mom. It sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can to rehabilitate her. I'm so happy with her progress she has made all ready. With all that you are doing for her, she is bound to be back to her normal self soon.

Thanks so much, that means a lot. I was told that she'll do the majority of her healing and re-learning in the first 3 months and there's usually little improvement, if any after that. So I figure I have 3 months to do everything in my power to help her heal and to rehabilitate her, so I'm doing all that I can.

Terry telling me what Gracie has had to over come give me hope that I can get the same results for Sadie, if I work hard with her. My vet even has a dachshund that had a disc injury that eventually regained full use of her back legs. If these dogs made such good progress and were worse off than Sadie, with some hard work on my part I should be able to get Sadie back to where she was.

Thanks again for the support, I can't express how much it means to me.

There are some here somewhere from when we were on vacation, but I was just thinking that I should take a video of her in the pool. Its so cute to see her so into it!

I got in touch with her in a round about way through another member of the forum. She works for a sheltie rescue and has spent months rehabing this sheltie that had a similar, unknown back injury. I mostly talked to her but we've been emailing back and forth a bit as well. Next time I'm in touch with her I'll check that its ok with her (I'm sure it will be) and PM you copies of my emails with her. I'm sure she wouldn't mind talking with you either.

Wow..these pictures and vids are awesome~I pray that Ginny continues to get well.
Adorable pictures!! How do you get them to go in the water?? I live on a pond, and Shelties don't usually go in water- Sandstorm gets his legs wet retrieving sticks, but that's all.

Thanks I appreciate that. It would fill my heart to see some videos of her in the pool. Gypsy and Chandler said to say hi to Sadie.

We have friends who have a BC/blue healer mix and a Australian Shepard/Golden retriever mix who both love to swim. Sadie would wade in as far as she could without actually swimming and seemed to want to follow them. So I bought her a life jacket and the rest is history.

Ginny it was sort of the same thing, she'd see them swimming, get carried away, forget herself and just jump in after them, then look extremely shocked afterward. So I bought her a life jacket. This trip to the cottage was to serve as a place to introduce Ginny gently to swimming. She HATED every minute of it, but had no problem being in the water as long as her feet were firmly planted on the ground, as you can see from these photos I forgot to post earlier.

I've continued to bring her in the pool when I'm done with Sadie, but I've made little to no progress with Ginny at this point.

That is too funny and they are great pictures. Other than chasing and biting the water from the hose when I water gardens, our dogs have no interest in water and heaven forbid Princess Pixie gets her paws wet... :rolleyes2:
