Sadie is suddenly paralyzed

I've been giving it a lot of thought and I'm going to be taking Sadie here on Saturday for an evaluation and some water treadmill work.

I just feel like I should be doing more for her in terms of rehab. Money is tight but I feel like I should make this work. I don't want to have to live with the regret if I don't at least try. I don't want to wonder 'what if' later on.

Its a bit far, an hour + away, but my obedience trainer has had experience with this place and says they're really good. They were very nice to talk to.

Good to see Sadie making so much progress. It's great to see them both getting in the water. My Buttons would walk around the smallest puddle of rain water to keep her paws from getting wet.

More Swimming Photos

Here are the promised swimming photos of Sadie, sorry it took so long. I kept forgetting my camera, as I like to upload the photos on my breaks/lunch.

Her back legs are doing great but they're weak. I let her swim a bit last night without the life jacket and she got tired VERY quickly. I had to support her back end a bit to keep her from going under.

She's doing well on walks too and seems to be getting tired less quickly. I've started making the walks faster and longer and so far so good.

I've FINALLY got her down to 1 prednisone a day (5mg). What a relief. Looking forward to cutting that back soon too.

Anyway, here are the links of Sadie swimming for your enjoyment. :wink2:

Re: Sadie's Swimming Videos

Sadie is doing great in the water. In one of the videos you said that she was in the water for 45 minutes. That's wonderful. She looks so proud of herself (which she has a right to be, she has come so very far!) Also, in the videos you can tell how much fun she is having. Thanks for sharing them. They were a joy to watch. I am continuing to pray for her.

Thanks for sharing the videos !!

Sadie is doing great ! yes, you can really see that she is certainly enjoying herself !! Keep it up Sadie we are all rooting for you and prayers will continue your way for a complete recovery !!

Love the new videos. They made me smile. I especially liked the longer one where you threw the ball and she swam away from you to get it. You can really see her back legs working--what an awesome sight.

Random question (as I desperately try to get mine to like the water), did Sadie always like the water? She seems like such a natural.

Also, does she ever just float in the water? Or is she always paddling? Just curious.

I am just REALLY lucky with Sadie. She always liked the water and took to the life jacket immediately. Even then, its only since her paralysis that she's REALLY started loving swimming. Before, swimming just wasn't fast paced enough for her.

No, Sadie doesn't usually just float in the water. She stops paddling when I'm holding her or if I flip her on her back (was trying to get her to relax but she just wants to play ball :rolleyes2:).

I've been struggling to get Ginny used to the water but usually its just panic central when I bring her in the pool. Last night I seemed to make some headway with Ginny by bringing her in the pool at the same time as Sadie. I let her watch from the stairs before bringing her into the pool and for the first time there was no complete panic. She didn't swim either though. :smile2:

We'll see what happens next time. My goal is just to get her used to the water, not to make her love it.

Wow!

Sadie looks great. She has such a sweet sweet face. It is so nice to see her back legs moving so well. I swear she moves better than my Chloe, when my Chloe swims.

You are the epitome of a wonderful mom. You have done miracles for Sadie. Thanks for sharing this with us, and for sharing Sadie's recovery.
