The Happy Tears are flowing !!! i think it gets to me so much since Chandler and her are in the same situation and I was heartbroken when I heard her age in the beginning. With Chandler's age I don't like that it happened but you know they are getting older.
She just looks so happy and in the first video you can actually see her working her rear legs really well. I can just imagine how much joy it brings you to see her in there and making such progress. Sadie we are all cheering you on. It was good to hear Ginny didn't panic as much in the water, she'll come along,I'm sure it helped her seeing Sadie having so much fun.

Praying for all of you,
Dawn Chandler and Gypsy:biggrin2:

Sadie is lucky to have kind neighbors that let her play in their pool. It's great to see that she is getting better.

This has been such an awful ordeal that I can't even think back to how she was a couple of weeks ago. Its just too disturbing. Had I ever even dreamed that something like this could have happened, it would have been my worst nightmare coming true. As a dog owner you often worry about your dog getting stollen or hit by a car, but never something like this, especially when its a young dog.

Its a huge relief to see her doing so well and it drives me to do all that I can to help her. I've thought about what happened and how she was as little as possible, I guess because I'm trying to erase what happened to her and forget about it.

Sadie is lucky to have kind neighbors that let her play in their pool. It's great to see that she is getting better.

Yeah, I don't know what I'd do without them I'm not even sure they realize how generous they've been or what it means to me that they've let us use their pool. I don't even know how to begin to repay them for their kindness, but I'm certainly going to try.

I feel so completely overwhelmed by the support given by forum members, friends and family during this difficult time that I simply don't have the words to express what I'm feeling. All I can say is thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Seeing the videos of Sadie swimming around brings a smile to my face. To see her using her back legs to push off the step and swim around after the ball just warms my heart.

She's an amazing dog.

Sadie's Rehab appointment.

I took Sadie to see a rehab vet on Saturday and the appointment went REALLY well.

The vet was VERY nice and wonderful with Sadie, who is shy around people she doesn't know. She performed cold laser therapy on her, which she said promotes healing of neurological cells (I think that's how she explained it.). Sadie then got to work on an underwater treadmill for approx. 25 min. Poor Sadie, she was so afraid and unsure at first, I felt bad leading her into that plexi-glass box that made strange noises. She got used to it quickly though and ended up really enjoying her self. They put a couple of floating balls in with her and she spent a good deal of time trying to figure out how to get both in her mouth at once. She did REALLY well.

The vet was very pleased with the progress Sadie has made in the last month (Its already been a month since her collapse, I can't believe it!), more than she usually sees with this sort of injury. She said that she doesn't believe that Sadie really needs to return for anymore therapy and that the home exercises she gave me are most important for her recovery, but that I could return should I feel it necessary. She offers therapy packages, which are a little less expensive but she really didn't think I'd benefit from them.

She also said that swimming is excellent for rehabilitation and to keep doing it for as long as possible. I'd wondered how much I should have Sadie swim without a life jacket, and the vet said that she should wear it all the time, that she finds that dogs use their back legs more with the life jacket than without it.

She also suggested cavaletties or ladder work so that Sadie relearns how to pick up her feet. We spent a small fortune on PVC yesterday and are going to build her a ladder lik this one tonight.

I had mixed reactions about taking Sadie to a specialist and was prepared to have someone trying to convince me to spend a lot of money, so it was such a relief that she thought the same thing as I did and the appointment was reasonably priced, especially considering how much it put my mind at ease. It was SO worth the money. Under $100 for a 45 min. appointment which included initial exam, going over all of the home exercises, laser therapy, 25 min. on an underwater treadmill and peace of mind.

It turned out that the clinic was down the road from a new Ren's Pet Depot (my FAV petstore), so afterward we all went shopping. Sadie and Ginny got a bottle of Almond/Cocoa dog cologne to hide the wet dog smell from so much swimming.

Sounds like the specialist appointment went great.

I am so happy to hear that Sadie is doing so well.

I love to read the updates! Thanks for keeping us posted.

I'm so happy for you that you have found some ways to help deal with Sadie's health issues, and that Sadie seems to be actually enjoying her treatment (i.e. the swimming!)

My heart is with you. It is just so scary when things go wrong, and our pups can't communicate with us. You are a great mom, and you read your pup well.

Hugs to you and Sadie!

I am so glad you had such a good report for Sadie. It is amazing how far she has come in the last few weeks. It must be such a relief for you to know that you are heading in the right direction with her.

I hope the two got to pick out some kind of neat toy and treat afterwards!!
