"Serving" Turkey Necks

Toffee is not a huge fan of turkey, LOL
SO.. I cut into the skin, so it is easier for him to pick at it some to get his itnerest going...
half the time the cat makes off with a turkey drumstick.. which is as big as the darn cat LOL
 
I agree, take the skin either off completely or cut into it so that they get a 'taste' of the meat underneath. It took both of mine a few times with the skin on, especially Maia. She would 'play' with the food and try to get the skin off, but she did not really want to touch it with her paws or anything, so she looked quite hilarious picking it up with her front teeth only, being careful that 'it' did not touch her lips or her fur, or her paws. Well, I just let her do her thing. A few times, she would not eat it so I took it away and she missed her meal. Out it came the next meal until she finally decided to eat it. Now, I have no problems with chicken or turkey with skin on :smile2: (but we're still working on the liver with Maia :mad: )
 
That skin is hard to get off... good gosh. I put down just one this time, because it took forever to deskin and they're not food/toy/anything aggressive with each other. They share bones all the time, lol.

I had to put KETCHUP several times (which is the first time they've even had it lol) and stuff a treat in the folds to even get Toulouse mildly interested. Right now he's licking it, and I saw him chew a little (maybe). So i'm hoping something gets triggered and he's like MM MEAT. I really really want their dental health to be good.

Luka looks disgusted though, lol.

Oh and, I cut some crevices in it.

Give them time. Some dogs and cats that are not used to raw take a while to get used to it. Like I said, Maia is a finicky eater and many times the first few times she sees a 'new' meat she does not go for it with gusto. It was like that with meat with skin, fish (we're still working on raw fish, but she eats sardines and canned salmon and loves it now) etc. So just be patient. If they don't want it, take it away and bring it out the next meal etc. They will not starve no matter how they look at you with those pretty almond sheltie eyes!
 
I cut a bit of the meat-meat off and did it in tiny pieces and he gobbled it up.

He just doesn't seem interested in chewing. :(

Lol, i'll keep trying though.
 
Good, but try not to help him too much otherwise that is what he will expect all the time. The chewing of the meat off the bone and the bone itself is what is so good for their teeth. If you cut up the meat into pieces, they don't get the same workout for their jaws and teeth. But, you are on a good start! Before you know it, they will eat it and be asking for more!
 
My thought was that if he tasted the meat, he might be like "MMM so THATS where it comes from. Okay gonna chew now!"

He likes the meat, but gets hung up on some of the tissue parts and seems way to lazy to try haha. We'll do it again in a few days. I froze them for the moment.
 
This is such an interesting thread! I think we were all surprised at some point that the raw meat not being gobbled up like we think they would at first, eh?

Toffee LOVES sardines, too, ANia.. but he is eating raw fish, but not as crazu about it, but as always I do the same as always.. I add some sardines and mash them up on top of the fish, lol
 
See, and this is what I have a hard time with. Meat will either be boneless AND skinless or just have the bone and skin. I can't seem to find meat with bones and no skin.

I guess it doesn't matter though. :uhoh:

Gross. That's the one thing my dogs have not eaten. I seriously can't stand fish, I can't even look at them. I can feed frozen Tilapia steaks, but that's the extent of it.
