She won't slow down!

Shelties are high energy dogs arent they? I mean my two Shelties wont stop moving for a second. If they are wrestling they are chasing one another or demanding I throw the Frisbee to them. If they arent doing that they are staring at me wondering when their daily three mile walk is going to start.

Just got back from the dog park and they basically run with 5 other dogs for two straight hours and I mean ran.

They are sitting next me laying down and Im actually stunned that they are tired.
 
I have always had respect for people with high energry dogs. Well, the more popular high energy dogs like ACDs and Border Collies. Erin could throw Zen the frisbee all day long and Zen would chase it until Erin's arm fell off. :eek2:

I think Fluff might give Zen a run for his money though!

Smudge always wants to play and have fun, but he always acts like he is unsure. Like when he first met Karma. He wanted to walk over and say hi, but he was very hesitant. Then when Erin kept throwing Zen's kong I could tell by the way Smudge was watching that he wanted to play, but he didn't know if it was a good idea or not.

Smudge moans, groans, and talks a lot. Today when I came home from work I told him he screamed like a girl. :lol:

LOL My old girl Chelsea lived most of her (almost) 13 years at that speed. The faster she could move the world past her eyeballs, the more fun it was.
 
It sounds like Fluffy doesn't have an off switch. Sometimes they will calm down with age, sometimes they are just like that.
Busy dogs like her usually benefit from some form of performance venue, if not for competition, but for fun and a way to let off some steam and for mental stimulation.
I've got two with no off switch... and I think the Border Collie pup is going to grow up to be the same way.
 
Dixie is a kangaroo- she bounces a lot. lots of zoomies and wrestling but then that's why we got her so she could tire out the Cranman and Callie could chill in peace. but she does love her cuddle on the couch time- she cuddles more than Cran right now :winkgrin:
 
We were going to the park once a week, but we had to stop. It kept getting dark too soon, and now it's too cold anyway. :dead: I'm thinking about PetSmart obedience for Fluffy after the first of the year. It's going to depend on if I can get off of work to go to it though.

I have a play agility tunnel. Might be time for a play agility jump. My luck would be Smudge would decide to lay down on one side of it, and then here comes Fluffy...and she steps on Smudge's face. :lol:
 
A jump or two sounds like a good idea :) There is actually a lot you can teach with one or two jumps and a tunnel. I bet she'd really enjoy it. I think the obedience class will also be a good idea, as it will provide mental stimulation
 
Only way I get Tully the pocket rocket to slow down is ball chasing every day. She chases her Air Donut on our morning walk prob only for 5-10mins but thats enough to satisfy her. In the evening I get out the chuckit stick and she chases the ball. It makes a huge difference, esp since Deska slowed down with his arthritis. They used to play together a lot more but then Deska got grumpy so the ball chasing gives her an outlet.

How big is your backyard? Even if you can give her 5mins of chasing a ball a couple of times a day it will help dissipate a bit of the energy.
 
I did not find Maggie's off switch till she was two- she finally calmed down and did not go wild all the time. Zak is mellow, and has his moments of zipping through the house and loves to play frisbee and l loves to try and get Maggie to play. I think he feeds off of her a lot and that is why he is so relaxed. If he had a puppy around to play with he would be going non stop.
 
So maybe our "wild child" Meggie is normal after all..... She pokes her nose into Mistys side repeatedly in an attemt to get her to chase her. When Misty finally chases her she goes into the zooming and bouncing off furnature. Misty gets tired and goes and lays down while Meggie continues to zoom. We try to contain this activity to the outside but aren't always sucessfull. Poor Louie just hides out of the way from them when it starts.
