Shedding!

The fastest way to get the shedding over quickly is to bathe them once a week for as long as it takes. That's what we do when the show dogs are blowing coat and we want to speed the process up. You won't believe the fur that comes out every single week -- you could build another dog.

And as Ontario said, be sure to brush with your shedding comb first! It makes a big difference.

When you say bathe every week do you mean with actual shampoo or just give him a rinse off in warm water?

Smudge gets hot spots really quick if he gets too many baths. I thought the last set was never going to heal. It took months. :dead:

I suggest a nice brushing, and then a very long warm bath. You will (or should) find a huge differance in the shedding.

So is that a nice brush for the dogs and then Jessica should take a very long bath. Sounds like a great option - relax and forget about sheltie fur for a while. But remember lots of bubbles or all you will see is sheltie fur floating on top of the bath water!

Well now it was a long day, when I typed that. But ya know, she's probably gonna need a bath, afterwards anyhow!

HAHAHAHA! See, now I would have never read it like that.

I have one of those Pledge fur trapper things. Believe it or not it works pretty well on clothes, too - while you are still wearing them! Cheaper than buying tons of lint rollers.

I use a very mild shampoo, but I think it's the warm water that releases the fur and encourages the shedding, so if shampooing causes problems for Smudge, I'd just try a good, warm water rinse.

I'd also second a bath with just warm water to loosen without shampoo if he has issues. And I'd think it wouldnt mess with his coat PH either since your not using shampoo??? Could be wrong though...

A warm bath really did help loosen Bailey's coat. She was miserable in the heat today. So, I'm hoping this bath and all the fur that brushed out will make her more comfortable tomorrow.

After a run this morning, my babies were looking pretty pitiful so I pulled out the grooming basket and when at them! I had at least a half of a grocery bag full of hair. Seriously. Most of it was Abbie's, some was Duncan's, and about 20 strands were Pierre's. When I got Duncan, I remember a woman telling me that I would miss the 'wash and wear' of a Papillon. It is true it is harder, but soooo worth it!
