Sheltie Quirks

Ah, yes, they infinite variety of sheltie quirks and habits.

1. Indy does not bark, whine, or scratch at the door when he needs to go out to potty during the middle of the night. Instead, he comes into the bedroom and mumbles...it reminds me very much of an Elvis impersonator doing "a-thank you...uh thank you vrrrrrrrrrry much". LOL
2. Emma is so sassy. If I tell her no on something she will stop...but then she will look at me and "clack" her jaws a few times rapidly (biting air). She is also very set on sitting on one of her favorite corners of the love seat or couch. If someone is already seated there (sheltie or human) she will leap up onto the arm of the couch, plant her butt between the armrest and the creature already sitting in "her spot" and slide herself into the space and wedge around until she is in her spot.
3. Sasha is the couch and bed princess. She is so happy to come in and jump up onto the couch or furniture that she does her "happy dance"...she lies on her side and spins in circles, while vocalizing a "woo woo woo aroo"
4. Figaro has to "tenderize" a spot before he lies down. He gets onto the sheepskin doggie bed, couch, bed...whatever and "digs" around for a bit to make his place, then he spins around a few times and lies down. He looks so INTENSE while he is in this process. He's got Emma and Sasha doing the bed tenderizing some as well...they aren't as dedicated to it and he did start the habit. Also, I know lots of dogs chase their tails but Figgy's tail is so long that he CATCHES it and continues circling.
5.Angus has a perpetually concerned look on his little face. He is a very good listener and likes to vocalize back when you talk to him. If I use a happy regular pitched voice, he answers with his regular bark; but if I do a high pitched whiny voice to him then HE whines back. Its funny. He also likes to play patty-cake with his little front paws with the cats, the other shelties, and his human family.

Layla the Princess of Absolutely Everything

Right at bedtime, Layla frisks over to the front door with great excitement and insistence, eyes flashing, every muscle aquiver. It's time to patrol the borders -- running fiercely along the edge of the woods, growling ferociously at all the BigFeet in there, warning them to stay out of her yard.

We're on the flight path from the White House to Camp David. Layla hated President Bush's helicpoter and chased it all the way down the driveway. We're no sure how she feels yet about President Obama. :wink2:

Finally, Layla loves to play with "Mr Nu-Nu" (the hair dryer). She'll dance, leap and twirl, barking into the warm air. Then, when I turn it off and tell her, "Say 'Night-night, Nu-Nu,'" she gives it a little lick and prances away. :biggrin2:

Annie Laurie

When we come home from work, Annie gets so excited she whips her head back and forth, biting her tail. "You're home! I'm so happy I have to bite something!!!" :biggrin2:

I just remembered one of my sheltie angel Dorian's quirks: he used to 'rescue' any can that was about to be crushed by anyone's foot! The second you put a can down on the ground and raised your foot to crush it, he would run up, pick the can up right from under you and run with it. He'd run circles around you with it and not let you get it. It was so funny. If you'd get another one, he'd drop the first one and run and get the second one. I am not sure where he picked that up, but it was funny to watch.
While watching that video of the top ten, I remembered that I have a short video of him barking at the blow drier on my cell phone. It was the last video I ever got of him, just a day before he passed away. Remembering all his little quirks, and he had most of the ones listed here, makes me really miss him. I think all these little quirks make our furbabies so lovable and unique. They are great!

This is hysterical. They hit every one of our triggers, although we have at least a dozen more. But I thought mine was the only one that went nuts when we change the trash bag! Too funny. Thanks, Barb!!:lol::lol:

Gavin's Shoe Fetish

Gavin loves my shoes. I will return home from work and find my nice leather shoes on the couch. He will pick them up, carry them up on the couch, and lick them. I have never found ANY teeth marks on them. Now, while he is usually very gentle with his toys, he waits until I am gone to 'play' with my shoes. And he has even 'played' with my knee high leather boots.
