For those of us that live in colder climates treadmills will help to keep our pups fit!

I'm actually surprised that Finnie took to it so easily. It's my goal that they'll want to go on it daily and I won't have to have them on leash (I'm sitting in front of treadmill keeping an eye on him). Definitely not there yet but they were both on it yesterday for 12 minutes and both did great. I can understand why but it's just another tool for keeping a dog fit, heck there are even treadmills for dogs!
I do walk the dogs every day...there's just no substitute for letting them get out and smell but in the winter months (and we have winter for 5 months of the year) it's so hard to get out...it's icy, cold, snowing...did I mention the cold...and the wind...January typically -20+ with windchill of -30...at those temps the dogs don't even want to be outside for longer than 5 minutes to do their business let alone go for a walk.
 
I measured Brodie again yesterday and he is down a bit from the last weigh in - down about 1/3 lb. We cut back on his dehydrated chicken snacks - only difference in intake - and he's been a bit more active in the yard these last few weeks as the weather is nicer - so goes to prove less calories in, more calories out results in weight changes. :) I think he looks great, but would like to see him at about 24 lbs by the time cold weather sets in. Once the roads get salted, his walks will be no more unless I can find booties he actually doesn't hide from when he sees me pull them out....

I just can't even imagine the winters there:Cold:
there's a reason that I live in south Alabama:yes:

Hanne what do you do in winter? Denmark must get pretty cold.

And I agree, easier to exercise them than have pleading eyes begging for food when they get put on a diet.

Caro you are right - but we still go for our walks :wink2:
I use paw wax - keep her hair between the paws short
and be very careful to take lumps of snow off her paws
when we go for a walk.

I can not just find a picture with Minnie,
but here is a picture from the beach
with my last GSD and my grandchildren from Perth.

The grandchildren are absolutely crazy
