Poor Smudge. He doesn't look too happy, and who can blame him?

I agree with everyone who suggested building up his immune system.

I noticed the Sheltie skin syndrome article said long term steroids may be necessary. Steroids are an immune system suppressant. So that suggests to me that Sheltie skin syndrome may be an auto-immune disease of some sort. I don't know about mange.

Anyway, I hope this episode gets cleared up soon. Once you get a handle on the treatment to which he best responds, future outbreaks may be quicker to go into remission.
 
I feel so bad for him. Your smart in trying the Vibrant, anything is worth a try. They say Dannon Yogart is great for the immune system also. Pure Dannon has all the natural ingredients in it.

I keep watching and praying his situation improves.

Actually, I bought the natural Dannon Yogurt the other day. I stopped using it because everytime I gave it to him he started to act like the was going to throw up. :uhoh: He would bend his head down and just leave his mouth open, like he was waiting for it to come. He never did though.
 
Oh my gosh this poor babe. hopefully things will get better for him. I am sure that the yogurt thing could have been a good thing..but your description of his reaction..I could not blame him..for wanting to throw it up. I hope that you can find something for him with the vibrant pets,and when it flares up again,you'll have a better idea of what will work.

Yuck, I throw up natural yoghurt too, unless it has honey mixed with it as its just too sour. I give my pups vanilla yoghurt (just the same stuff I eat) and they love it. But if you want to give natural yoghurt, try mixing in some honey the greek way.

When Bacca was sick, I mixed his pills with Activa Probiotic Yoguort - but vanilla only. Slurp, lap, slurp! Medecine gone!
 
I got so excited a few minutes ago. I saw some fur right in the middle of Smudge's "patch". I thought it was growing back some. After close inspection and looking at other pictures I think it's just fur that hasn't fallen out yet. :dead: I'm keeping an eye on it just in case. :uhoh:

That's one of the reasons I'm taking pictures every two or three days. That way I can better tell when it starts to move in a certain direction and pinpoint it within a few days.
 
You are funny! I can just see you inspeciting Smudge every chance you get. (it's good don't get me wrong, but I can just hear what Smudge is thinking - oh no, here she comes again. I know, that is what Maia thinks each time I inspect her eye.)

You are doing great! What a great mom you are. Smudge is one lucky pup to have you.
