I seriously want to cry.

I seriously just want to roll into a ball and cry. I thought Smudge was doing so much better. We were having vet problems, but I was sure he was on his way to recovery. Now this:

I said a day or two ago how his fur was turning purple again. That's always how it starts. I didn't notice the fur loss last night! I took those pictures this morning. In a day or two he'll have a much larger bald spot if history repeats itself. There's no hair in that picture where there was hair before. It always starts to crack and bleed, and then he will scratch it, making it worse.

He was just at the vet Wednesday! THE DIPS ARE NOT WORKING. I'm tired of vet techs playing doctor and groomers acting like I have an attitude problem when I ask questions. You know, MAYBE if you were doing your stupid skin scrapes this would not have happened! MAYBE you would have noticed that the mites were still there. I'm just throwing that out there for ya. :mad:

Somebody please help me. :( I don't know what to do.

I've not tried the new vet. Smudge has one more dip (Oct. 14th). I was going to wait until after the last dip to change vets. If his eye is looking worse come Monday morning then I'm going to go looking for the new vet's office. It's not bad right now, but it always starts this way. It spreads out of control very fast. I could put him on Interceptor, but I'm going to wait and see what my new vet thinks. The dips have obviously got to go, as they are not doing any good. There's another kind of medicine he could take (I'll have to look up the name later), but I refuse to let him have it. I don't know if he has the MDR1 gene. I have the test kit, but I haven't sent back my sample yet.

When I do go to my new vet I'm bringing pictures of his eye and how it's progressed. It went from mild, to moderate, to severe, to moderate, to mild, and now it's rearing its ugly head again. This isn't how a puppy should spend his first six months of his life. :(
 
OK Jessica, go and buy some Colloidal Silver - I am serious. I use it ALL the time for EVERYTHING on myself and on my dogs topically and internally. It is a natural disinfectant, anitbacterial, antifungal and antiviral agent - and it works. You would not believe the number of people that have tried it and have come back to me stating how it has helped them AND it is not expensive at all.

This guy only tried it topically. I would also give Smudge some internally. My two get it almost everyday, just a bit as a preventative.
You can google colloidal silver and mange and lots will come up. You will have to check how much to give him (they should have a recommendation on the bottle or with the health food store)
 
I read online that the dips work 80% of the time. Interceptor taken every day also works 80% of the time. The good thing is if the dips don't work, you can try interceptor.

From what I've read on the forum, your vet doesn't sound very good. If it gets worse, definitely take him to the new vet.

I hope he feels better soon!

Please, find a veternarian dermotologist. Call Dr. Emily Rothstein at 860 620-9096, and ask her for a vet dermotologist in your area. She is the dermotology specialist for Connecticut, a graduate of Cornell. A lot of people come from other states to see her. You can tell her I recommended you call. I have known her for 20 years, she was my vet before going back to school for her specialty.
This is more then just dipping the pup. It is obvious that you need to go further to get the help you need.

I was afraid it was going to come to seeing a dermatologist. I live out in the middle of nowhere, and I bet the closest one is going to be in Dallas or Little Rock. I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't drive a long ways. I have to go to work (I work full time graveyard and go to school part time) otherwise I won't be able to pay my vet bills, and they won't let anybody off until after the first of the year because of it being Holiday season. For some odd reason they decide that the second week in October is the cut off week for time off/vacations.

My dad is going to be going to Texas to work at the end/middle of this month though. Maybe I could meet him half way on the weekend or something (even though I wouldn't get but maybe 30 minutes of sleep).

I'm going to try this silver stuff and the new vet. If things don't improve by then I will give her a call. When it comes down to it I can't let Smudge go blind. So if going to the dermatologist will help him then that's what I'll do. I pray I can find a solution so it won't have to come to that though.

This is the reason I need to find the other puppy owners! I really hope the other four puppies didn't end up in shelters or worse. :cry: That's another reason I become paranoid with Smudge. I'm afraid that if somebody were to steal him that something horrible would happen if they were to see his eye. I'm not trying to be vain, but I think he's a pretty dog. If somebody were to see him in my yard while he's out to go to the bathroom and then steal him they might dump him somewhere or worse. :cry: Right now I'm afraid to even get him chipped because of his fur.
 
Jessica, if you get a new vet they can possibly consult with a dermatologist without you taking Smudge to the dermatologist. I know my vet did. You can also ask at the vet you are seeing though from what you've said your probably not going to get any results there. When I hear your experiences I thank God every day that I'm blessed with a great,caring vet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that this is not a flareup of that nasty stuff again.

I'm so sorry about the relapse, Jessica & Smudge. I'll keep praying for you. I think I remember that the Vet said to try the dip first, because it was the cheapest. Hopefully, the other medicines will help.
