This is so true. Our Vinca has "hound dog ears" or "floppy ears" and she is currently battling a yeast infection in one of her ears. The shelties are much better off with the little tip to allow the air to flow through.

My first Sheltiie had one ear that tipped and one ear that didn't.
My second, Jazz, had unruly ears that would never submit to the bend, so both his were up.
Ellie Mae has naturally tipped perfect ears and she can show all kinds of emotions with them that way, so I don't think it hs anything to do with enhancing or distracting from seeing expressions.
My preference is tipped ears.

Layla started with lovely tipped ears. I knew nothing about ear gluing, and they became her famous and beautiful prick ears. I wouldn't change them for a million bucks.
Bitsy's are absolutely perfect, and all natural.
Annie's tip naturally, but spread out like Sister Bertrille.
Beckon came glued and stayed glued until I was sure they would forever tip. I took no chances!

I was gluing my dogs' ears and then thanks to LightPlum, I have fallen in love with the Japanese Ear Tape method. No hair loss, and the tape comes off in 5 seconds flat with a cotton ball and Zo-eze. It's really not that much of a bother, either. I can do both dogs' ears in 10 minutes. My Claussen has HUGE bat ears and if they weren't tipped, he'd just look silly. His father is a Macdega champion, and I want Claussen to look the part as well, even though he is already 17" at 7 months and can't show him. Here's the difference (I much prefer the tipped expression)
Claussen is the sable (his ears were messed up with us gluing them to start with, and not knowing what we're doing so the tip isn't very good-but his expression is "softened" at least a little) and Little Bear is the bi-black...his ears have come along very nicely since we know what we're doing now.

Your two are so darned cute I can't stand it!!
My friend and I are working hard on Pyper's ears to get them tipped. They are large ears on a little girl and we'd really like to get them tipped. They are very stubborn...especially the left one. Her breeder is beginning to understand how it bennefits his kennel to include some performance info on his pet dogs. He wants to feature Pyper on his website as she begins to earn titles. I'm very certain he would be much happier to show her with correctly tipped ears.

I LOVE the picture of the puppies on the float in the pool. It is adorable! Sandstorm has Macdega also. Sandstorms ears aren't tipped, but they are small. I really love your pics and the way you show your adoration for your dogs, it is heartwarming!!

Oh sorry, I didn't look at this thread yesterday. We are using mole skin cut into two peiecs which we adhere to the top and bottom of the inside of her ears and then glue them together with fabric glue. We have a spray that we put on the mole skin that makes it more sticky. We were using a surgical glue but had trouble removing it once and made her little ears so sore. We haven't tied her ears together...we're just working on the tip.

I tried and tried with Maggies but failed, and Katie had one good one and the other was tipped but was a bit crooked. Zak's breeder taped his the day we picked him up she used the moleskin and tape with the surgical glue. It lasted a few weeks and since the breeder is only 2 hours away we had her redo it. I wish we had kept the bridge in longer as he has one that is just perfect and the other needs to stand up more-- but he is so cute.
Parker had his done with tape and it came out 2 days after he was here. Luckily my groomer came and redid them for me, she uses glue.
I feel it adds so much to the expression-- my next one will have perfect ears, especially now that my groomer friend will do them for me. She makes it look so easy.
