Shelties on Craigslist

I would be concerned that this would just reward the breeder - she hasn't put one iota of time or money into this dog beyond keeping him alive for the past year. That $100 would be free money in her pocket.

My guess is that she (correctly!) put the $100 price-tag on him to weed out anyone picking up a free dog for truly nefarious purposes. GSR is aware of the dog and, if they need to, can probably convince her to part with him for free (or a lot less), given that he'll be going to a good place.

Now, if you want to make out a $100 donation to GSR... that would be a truly beautiful thing to do! :biggrin2:

exactly...and Im probably thinking that the GSR is most likely familiar with this person..judging by the pics she doesnt look new to this! And rewarding her with $$$ will just encourage her to continue with her practices!

Max was for sale in December of 2011 for $750.00. Then for 150 and now for 100. Georgia sheltie rescue was going to get him for 150.00 but they never got back to the rescue. Something seems a bit strange that they wouldn't get back with the rescue. I know the people who own Max now also have a dachshund litter up for sale too. I am hoping another breeder doesn't get Max. So I am waiting to hear from sheltie rescue. I think the people who bought Max spent a lot more than $100.00 to get him. The reason he is less now is because he doesn't come with papers.

I looked at Max's ad when he was $750.00. He was 9 mos. then. They said he was bought to be a breeder but their girl shelties are too small and cannot breed plus the original breeder never put his papers through. So maybe they are not backyard breeders. All of those dog houses do look suspicious though. Maybe they never let their dogs in the house. Who knows.

Oh no doubt they that they are not good breeders or even good dog owners but I never knew one to be picky. Looks like a sheltie, sort of, good enough!:smile2:

This does look suspicious to me also, and with many backyard breeders wanting to just make $$$ will try out new breeds, not really knowing the proper breeding qualities, or for that matter, not knowing much at all. They just want to make a quick buck. They are in it for the quick money and not the quality or care of the breed. Things happen… the papers fall through, medical problems and expense, the pups did not turn out like they thought and they walk away and get rid of the dogs. Hard to stop this… yes, it’s driven by greed. Sad.

I told Georgia sheltie rescue to try and buy Max for $100.00 and I will sponsor him and send them $100.00.

I think this is a wonderful offer of kindness to help Max, help get him into recue and find a loving home… and will also help GSR. This is a donation helps give GSR a little leverage knowing Max’s upfront cost is covered. Many rescues operate on a ‘shoe string’ budge and need our support. This is a good way to offer it and help fund our friends in sheltie rescue. Max’s future may only hold dirt floors, dog boxes, no love and maybe worse. This $100 is not a reward as backyard breeders, unfortunately, will always be there. It’s to help GSR. This $100 is to help save a life and get Max out of a bad situation, and I think it’s a small price to pay to get this little guy into a new home.

“She hasn’t put one iota of time or money into this dog”… yes, so sad but true, but that’s the way these sick people work. These monsters will always try to make money, but in rescue we try to save lives. Getting the dogs out of these bad situations is most important… stopping these backyard breeders is a monumental challenge. They will never care for these dogs... ever.

$100 = Max gets a new life, works for me. Changing people’s greed…. so very hard. Wish it was as easy as just give a hundred bucks to fix all this, but it’s not, but it may save one life.

Keep us posted Danny’s mom. Let us know if you hear anything back from GSR.

Poor Max. How sad to have to have to live like that. Thank you Danny's Mommy for emailing SRGA. I hop they can help him.
