Showing Collies vs. Shelties

I am glad to see some honesty from the other side...I have talked to people that own collies, and of course they adore them as much as you are nuts about shelties. Now I just need to find someone that enjoys both enough to give me an unbiased opinion :lol: (I love both personally)

I am not looking for an agility dog anywhere in the near future. And if I wanted to do agility, I would definately want a sheltie or a australian shepherd. I can not do agility with Aztec, because I am too chicken. He is a terrible ankle biter, and gets worked up...and he also can't jump worth his life.

I am basically exploring different breeds right now though...I am also considering Australian Shepherds and Siberian Huskies...but I really like the sheltie/collie look, so they are my top two.
 
Collies/Shelties

I have collies and shelties. We have a smooth collie to show right now and a young sheltie to show. I don't want to live without either. My shelties have always been prima donnas. If they don't like something you can't change their minds. They are quick, smart, lovely and totally opinionated. My collies have been obedience wise very quick, easy to live with, relaxed and confident. I am always very cautious to socialize my shelties and pray they stay outgoing and friendly - while my collies just tend to be happy and oiutgoing. They each bring something to my life I cannot do without. I owuldn't changemy household for anything. 2 blue rough collies, 2 smooth collies, 2 shelties. A full house -

I also love and adore Collies, even tho I have no experience with them. However, because I love a working type dog I will probably always choose a collie looking Sheltie over a Collie, lol
For you on the other hand, especially for confirmation I would totally see why a Collie would be a wonderful addition to your house!
 
I have both Shelties and a Smooth Collie. The Smoothie finished just after her second birthday (ancient in Smoothie time) with a specialty major. I handled her myself to all the points, and beat handlers along the way. :biggrin2: It was a fun adventure.

Her name is now "Champion Katie On The Couch". She has zero motivation, and would rather sleep than do anything else. She is always the last one in the house. I actually left her in the hallway last week by accident, she ended up in my landlords apartment that night.

I like her, but I don't know that I would have another one. She is good for socializing Sheltie puppies, because she gets "little" and lets them crawl all over her. She has two RN legs, and I might try to put an HT on her later.

She is Ch. Kirkhaven Clantyre Caetlyn, by Ch. Signet's Twice Is Nice ROM x Ch. Kirkhaven Stardust ROM. She was Champion # 40 for her sire, his owner was there to see her finish, and #7 for her dam, making her a ROM.

One thing I will say about Collie people... They are competitive, but they have a good time, and they seriously know how to do a National. Even their specialties are laid back and chill. They aren't afraid of color, and have basically gotten rid of hip dysplasia. Most breeders don't even OFA anymore.
 
I love collies, especially their "look of eagles".. there was one who lived near to us who was bought as a puppy by an elderly man upon his retirement.. he paid a fortune for the dog who was very beautiful. I used to look forward to seeing Rex as he was the friendliest of dogs.. always beautifully groomed too.

Rex passed away recently from old age.. I sure miss seeing him on my walks.

I didn't know your collie bitch was by Pete. I just spoke with Mike Esch this week, and asked how Pete was. I don't know if you know this, but Tess was my very best friend. Pete has the most wonderful temperament, and he has passed that on. Lucky you!
