soft-sided crate with curtains

The reason I asked about waterproof is 1. sideways rain and 2. we packed up camp cuz we knew it was going to rain, but the pen got soaked and hubby forgot to put something on top of it (mesh). Dogs got soaked.

And our last trial was in a horse arena, but the rain was coming in sideways so we got wet too. Ugh.

I've been using the green double door Midwest crate for a couple of years now with Bella and have been thrilled with it. It was about 50 bucks for the 24 incher from Clean Run, but is so sturdy that I consider it one of the better agility investments we've made. I rarely set it directly on the ground since I have a small tarp I tend to keep in the carrying case, but it does great in the rain/mud.

Bella also approves....

Bella looks like she definitely approves. How big is Bella? I'm debating on the 30" or 36". Ugh. When Koji lies down on his side, he's 33" long (from forehead to rump). Darn long big dog. lol. Make me pay more for a bigger, heavier crate, lol

Oh yuck....I have had that happen. The windy rain is the worse. I am not sure if mine are waterproof. I always have tarps with me and throw them over everything when it rains.

Well, I finally bought one. lol.

I went with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130403736577

I was trying to get this navy blue one and figured I'd want to see when those auctions end (one ended today at $60!), but hubby said he liked the bright blue one, so I got that one.

We also went with a 36" since Koji is 33" lying down and this will give him room to stretch out, especially when it starts to get warm. Now, I just need to find a cheap, but somewhat airy cover to throw over it. lol.

Yay, no more huge play pen to lug around. Nope, now I lug around a 36" soft crate. Thanks everyone for your input. This was the cheapest so I went with that. I hope it's not going to be too heavy. And it should hold up as long as Koji doesn't scratch at it (which he rarely does the pen).

Well, Koji absolutely LOVED the crate. I'm not sure why, but he kept wanting to go into it (I'm sure he was tired from daycare and agility). So, I just let him go into it and he'd watch us through the screen (it was in the living room) and he'd start to doze off. 36" is a good size for him to stretch out in.

On the downside of it, the stitching wasn't so great and it pulls on the zippers when it's set up. I have 2 choices which I don't like. Pay for shipping to send it back because I don't want it ($20 or half of what I paid for it) or pay lots of shipping all ways to send it to the manufacturer. I don't see anything really wrong with it, but with heavy usage, it's going to fall apart fast. Or if Koji pushes up against it at all.

Therefore, I'm going to sell, and tell the person about the issues it could potentially have. And am going to purchase this one instead: EliteField Crate

Ugh, I'll see how it is, but I've read only great things about that brand. Unfortunately, I thought it was the same thing, just different colors.

Just wanted to give an update.

Ashley: you bought from the same company, is yours like that too? The top and front is being pulled on from the frame, so it's hard to zip past certain points (where it's pulling). Seriously, just not my day, lol

Hmmm...no! Ours both zip fine. I mean it's not the greatest quality, but I think they will last at least 2-3 years for us.

Of course.....it's just my luck. Seriously, Murphy has been hating me all day long. Or loving me, depending on how you look at it.
