soft-sided crate with curtains

Well, Koji absolutely LOVED the crate. I'm not sure why, but he kept wanting to go into it (I'm sure he was tired from daycare and agility). So, I just let him go into it and he'd watch us through the screen (it was in the living room) and he'd start to doze off. 36" is a good size for him to stretch out in.

On the downside of it, the stitching wasn't so great and it pulls on the zippers when it's set up. I have 2 choices which I don't like. Pay for shipping to send it back because I don't want it ($20 or half of what I paid for it) or pay lots of shipping all ways to send it to the manufacturer. I don't see anything really wrong with it, but with heavy usage, it's going to fall apart fast. Or if Koji pushes up against it at all.

Therefore, I'm going to sell, and tell the person about the issues it could potentially have. And am going to purchase this one instead: EliteField Crate

Ugh, I'll see how it is, but I've read only great things about that brand. Unfortunately, I thought it was the same thing, just different colors.

Just wanted to give an update.

Ashley: you bought from the same company, is yours like that too? The top and front is being pulled on from the frame, so it's hard to zip past certain points (where it's pulling). Seriously, just not my day, lol

The two soft crates we have for Trapp & Jasper are just like this.It is the same seller we purchased from. I do believe you will love the quality.

Yeah, I went with one of those two seller's. I don't have any issues with the first seller, and will leave positive feedback (oh, I returned it btw for anyone that was curious). I just didn't care for the quality as I know I'll be using it a lot and Koji won't be overly kind to it. lol.

I'll keep you posted. I should receive it Friday.

I received the other crate today. I'm much happier with the quality. Although, I liked the other blue, lol. Oh well. It's a lot taller too I think. Now I keep thinking, maybe I should've gotten the smaller one. LOL. Oh well. Here's a picutre of Koji inside. It's a mansion. I'm going to see if I can exchange it for a 30". Ohmigod. I didn't think the 36" would be so dang humongous! Ugh. I dunno what to do. The bigger one will be great for summer when he will sprawl out, but it just looks so huge. I could fit a Malamute in that thing. hehehe. Maybe I should just a dog to fit in it. Yeah.

It does seem huge! I would have gone a size down. The problem is that "medium" or "large" is different from one brand to the next.

I found the optimium size for my dogs was the 4th from the left - yeah the picture with the Sheltie in it.

I put both dogs into the same crate when we are on the boat heading over to the cottage. Yes, its only a 5 minute ride, but it easily accomodates two 30 lb Shelties. Plenty big.

Help!

Ugh. I don't know what to do. The next size down is 30x21x24. Height is good, length a bit short (Koji lying down on his side is about 33" long). Do y'all think this would be good for him (for agility trials) when it starts to get hot and he wants to sprawl out? Hmmm....I know his travelling crate (medium vari-kennel) is too small for that sort of thing (which is 28x20.5x21.5). Length-wise, he's squished in it.

Ugh! What to do, what to do. Thoughts? See previous post for a photo of Koji in the crate for sizing. That's the 36" one. Height wise, it's tall! But length-wise, doesn't it look okay? Hmmm.....thoughts?

Cheryl--it really depends how much room you have when packing up for trials. Personally, we went a size bigger for trials. We have the 30" one, but our dogs are smaller than Koji (<16").

With the bigger size they have room to breathe when it's hot, and you can toss a big comfy blanket in there when it's cold.

But, if it's too big to carry comfortably (portability is the main reason you got it, right?) then you may need to go smaller.

Phebe is 17-1/2" and the 30" soft crate we use at trials is plenty big, winter or summer. I use a smaller 27" crate in the car. It's tight but she can stand up and turn around in it, and lay comfortably in it. Her house crate is 36" wire and it's HUGE. I wish we had gone with 30" for that crate.

Honestly, size for carrying and packing up isn't an issue. When open, the footprint is smaller than the playpen. But closed is larger. No biggie. And for the most part, this is just for Koji. Since we're doing more AKC, we leave Miko home.

Phebe and Koji are the same height. Can you do me a favor. Can you have her lie on her side, flat, and measure her from tail bone to nose and see how long she is? I think this will give me the best answer to see if 30" is good.

Thanks.
