spay incontinence?!

First please have a vet rule out a UTI. When 2 of my Shelties suddenly had this issue they had a UTI that had gone to their kidneys and they were drinking tons and couldn't hold their bladder. Easily fixed with antibiotics (but NOT homeopathy). If she does have incontinence, as Hanne said there is medication for it. Sorry you're going through this but hopefully it can be fixed.

I agree..... always get a check for a UTI when there's unexpected extra peeing................

Than one day my mom lifted Bju and she was all wet at her pants I thinked ok maybe she was too impatient to wait and pee at one place. So sorry to hear this...Please let me know what happens with this.. This remains a huge area of concern (thus my recent post on to spay or not to spay given the new study...) and our spay is still scheduled in a week. Sheltie nation has been great with other responses thus far.
 
Like the daily painter noted, we too are just coming off loosing a beloved male sheltie that had numerous health issues his entire life (gi, allergy, heart, atypical cushings, gallbladder, eye, etc) and so we are so hoping that spaying her at 13 months does not result in UI or create other negative impacts.
 
So at the vet we decided we will just give her antibiotics and some other herb medicine good for the bladder. We would need to put her in 'sleep mode' to get the urine sample out but we decided not to do it because she doesn't cope good with anestetics. Her breathing goes off and I didn't want to risk it. If things don't get better with the antibiotics we will do it but they will prepare the whole team if she gets bad. So until friday no pee accidents. I don't know if it was realy an infection or we are lucky. I will finish the treatment and luckly we will know the truth.
Spay incontinence was my most feared problem after the operation. I hope now we are lucky still. But other than that living with a spayed dog is a dream. She was spayed at 19 months and after 2 heats. My other female is still intact so we have 'fun' times.

Not sure she would let you, but have you tried attaching a ladle to a longer stick with duct tape? You can walk her, when she squats, quickly sneak it under her mid stream. Have to check with the vet, make sure they are onboard with the sampling and check their terms - refrigerate, bring in within how many hours, but it would be a safer way to collect a sample. Hope her issues resolve!
 
My last female Cocker would get soooo many UTI'swhen she was on steroids...I got really good at getting a urine sample from her. I used a clean (new) tinfoil pie plate that I bent a bit and as she walked to pee (and you need that first pee from morning) and squatted (she squatted really low as well) I slipped it under her. Worked every time!
