Spinal Stroke (FCE)

I'm sorry to hear about your sheltie's spinal stroke. As others have mentioned, a member of our forum had this happen to her girl, Sadie.

She posted about it on this thread.

Good luck to you--hope he continues to improve!

I just this morning met a woman at the dog park who told me about her golden who had a spinal stroke. She was telling us all her dog spent 2 years wearing diapers but with much therapy he was getting around better. She said she would sit on the floor with him and excercise his legs and massage him weekly and took time but he did learn to walk again, though it was a lopsided gait he had and he sometimes needed something to lean on to get from room to room. I had never heard of these.

We had a foster Sheltie that had FCE a few years ago. The good news, is that she recovered after only 2 weeks of therapy.

Sending positive thoughts your way, for a quick recovery.

Quick update about my little guy:

Both of his legs are moving. He can't walk on them but they stretch and bend on their own. He's in great spirits, eating and drinking. He can also fully urinate on his own, that was a big concern for us. We have a very long way to go but he's such an amazing dog. He's sleeping next to me right now.

Thanks so much for all the kind words, both Hobbes and I thank you!

Keep the faith! Your reports sound very hopeful and with loving and consistent care, hopefully Hobbes will regain the use of his legs. A big hug to him from me. Keep us updated.

I never had this experience but you sure are on the right track to improve your boy. Prayers he has great success.

Thanks again everyone.

Hobbes walked today. He struggled a little but managed to get up and take a few steps. I've been taking him to physical therapy three times a week and he's responding well to the underwater treadmill. It's just amazing to see him move his little legs.
