Strange Behavior When Eating?

I cannot get much weight on Liam but he loves to eat. He gets about a cup or less a day. Emma gets about 2/3 c which is keeping her at a nice weight.

Mine did not like to eat much until I switched to Summit. Now, they would eat the whole bag at one sitting.

It could be the food. He may be full. My Noah used to leave his breakfast until the afternoon a lot of the time just because he wasn't hungry.

I can feel the ribs and hip bones on Liam. I cannot get weight on this boy. He is the more active of the two.

Monet has taken to pushing all of his food out of his bowl with his nose, he also pushes his bowl around. He tossed it all out last night, and I saw him do it again this morning. He is still having issues eating consistently, he was doing great at home but when I moved him to the apartment his stress level jumped again and he stopped eating.

Despite his behavior, is he eating most of his food ? Hopefully so. You could always add a small amount of chicken or fish or a little more canned food for a while if you really feel that he is underweight.

My old dog has always been a nibbler She'll put some morsels in her mouth, drop a few around her bowl, but usually end up eating them. She is also my stress-monster and will push her metal food bowl around or will try to cover it up when she is stressed. At this point I take up her food and offer it to her later.

Eating issues

Try Monet on a raw diet, but cook the meat. Sweet potatos, white potatos, spinach, zuchinni, carrots shredded. Meat can be white fish, chicken, white meat pork. Even my health compromised Sheltie eats it up. You can feed smaller meals a couple times a day.

Best,
Kate

I really, really wish I could do the raw or even the cooked version of raw. But unfortunately, I'm a broke college grad who can barely afford the time or money to feed myself that well. My job right now is hectic and doesn't give me the time to cook my own meals, let alone his. I am living off cereal and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. When I get more time and money, believe me, we will both be living on cooked food like that. But until then, I have to stick with the best dry food I can afford. Which is why I liked the Orijen - I think it's the blue buffalo he knocks out of his dish. When I buy him some more (I want to give him one more bag of orijen and decide if I'm going to switch over to Now), I will stop feeding him the BB.

He is eating most of it, usually at night. I finally gave in and left his food in his crate. He just wasn't eating enough. He likes to eat at about 2-3 am, not sure why. I know he was used to being feed continuously (his last owner mentioned he would be a "good candidate for it" when I got him), so I guess it might just be what he's used to?

If he doesn't put any more weight on, I will have his thyroid checked. I have thought about that. Maybe he has hyperthyroidism. He is a very active and high energy dog when he's not hiding in the corner or on the couch. I have been taking him on hour walks in the morning to get him out and about, and he wants to run, play and jump. It may be he's burning all his calories consumed?

I wish it were that easy for me to drop weight, haha. I'll trade him.

If he is active, happy, and social...why do you need to put weight on him?

It will come in time. As long as there is no health issues, I would not worry about being a little underweight. It is actually healthier to be that way for a dog.

As far as hyperthyroidism, I would highly doubt that is the case. First of all it is very rare in dogs, and secondly he is so young. I guess it can't help to check, but I really wouldn't be concerned about that.
