Summertime trim

Also, you can buy cooling coats for your dogs. A lot of people use them at our agility trials. There are also cooling beds which help lower their temperatures.

Hey cool! Where do you buy this stuff? (The cooling bandanna too.)

I got it at a Pet Valu store here in Ontario. I believe that there are sites on line where you can purchase them. You freeze them and then put it on the dogs.

I brought a cooling bed for Deska - and neither of mine will use it! Waste of money really. I just have a couple of kids t-shirts that I soak in water if I want to really cool them on their bellies or I leave a towel in the esky at trials for instant cool down after a run. The cooling jackets dont tend to go under them but just sit on top, which is fine for a short coated breed. But I dont know how effective that is for a heavy coated breed, esp as shelties have the thinnest fur on their bellies so I would assume something to cool that belly area would be more effective (although you could tie the bandana around their bellies)

McKinley here..........

Cooling bed.............Nah, just jump in the brook (about 50F) and then come in to sleep under the kitchen island on the tile floor. Now there's a cooling bed for you! Aaaahhhhhhhhh.............relief, it was in the 80's today.

MMM

Jan here. He stinks though, so the cooling bed might be a fresher option!

Ceiling fans and box fans on the floor help too

Box fan. That reminds me of my childhood at my grandma's house in South Dakota. Small farm house, no A/C 100 degree weather with high humidity, 4th of July week. So hot I would lie in front of the box fan trying to keep cool with my grandpa watching golf on TV. I wanted to die. AH the good old days.:biggrin2:

I wanted to also add, that they make cooling bandanas for dogs.I got two of them back about 6 years ago from Foster & Smith. One was Earnhardt.I gave the other as a gift.

Quite a cool thing. You soak it in water, and there is something,my guess those silica gel fillings. But when you totally submerge it,it expands, and holds the moisture, and stays expanded once you put it on your dog.

Earnhardt loved his.Looked like a bandana, and kept him cool. And it does'nt make them all drippy wet either. When your done with it,I stored mine in the fridge, and reapplied when I needed it again. Every now & again, you would re-soak to get it expanded again.

They were not expensive either.I did however throw it away when we packed to move into the new house,as it needed replacing.I do believe that Foster & Smith still carries them.

With Noah, we would set a fan on the floor near the entrance to the kitchen where he would lie. He spent a lot of time in front of it. If it wasn't turned on, he would keep looking at it and then at us until we turned it on.

Hamish would like on the cushion floor in the bathroom.

I'll have to see what Emma will do. She likes to like on the cushion floor in the entrance way, or under the bed (as did the other two), where it is dark and cool.
