You can actually make your own cooling bed with the water crystals you get from the gardening store. You sew up cloth into squares and put a tsp of crystals in each pocket. Just make sure its sturdy cloth

I just purchased a cooling bed for Edan to use at agility trials, http://www.soothsoft.com/cc.html. We purchased the small size but if you have a larger Sheltie you'll want the medium.
Its great because it's just memory foam and water; fill it with water, get the extra air our and seal the opening - one time process. As long as the ambient air temperature is lower the the dog's body temperature it'll feel cool.
I currently have it in our bedroom for him to lay on overnight because its been so warm and we haven't turned on the AC yet.

I bookmarked this. I'm going to keep this in mind. I have central air, but my room is the hottest room in the house. I usually put a AC in my window every summer, but we're selling the house soon and I don't think that will look too good to prospective buyers.
When I get some extra money I'll buy a small one for Bailey. I'm sure she'll appreciate it. She gets so hot, she pushes her crate bed to the front and sleeps on the plastic floor. I attached a picture of her "fortress".
