Tapped ear question

These are fantastic! I especially like Step 4. :)

Thats your mom!! She made it for me way back when Molly was a puppy! That was my bible for how to do ears! Its soo worn from being used but it still sits in my ear bag after all these years!! MissJenneyGirl should change her name to the ear guru:smile2:

Wow thanks I don't have to work tomorrow so I will take my time looking at it. We won't get to his ears till tomorrow night. I had to go to the first class of obedience tonight. By they sounds of some of those owners my Zak will be the class star. He needs to build up his confidence but we all know how shelties are so smart. Tonight we went with out the dogs and our first class is sit/ stay and release, Zak knows sit and will do a few stays. OOPS got away from the ear's. Thanks ever so much will take a pic after we get them done.
One of the assitants in the class has shelties and my teacher used to show shelties in confirmation and agility so she has a very soft spot in her heart for them.

Well I did it tonight and not sure what happened but it did not hold on one ear the second piece kept coming loose and really bothering him. I will either go back to glueing or break down and call his breeder. Hate to bother her with a new baby but I need some help. I will be so happy when he is done teething. Thanks anyway Lightplum

Did you clean the ear really good so there was no oils in there? I know even if theres one little spot I miss the tape wont hold!

Mostly it was tape not sticking to tape. The first piece stuck to his ear great the next one with the yard after I tied it, pulled apart and got that back down and the next piece for folding the ear over came loose. It is very much like what my breeder did with mole skin.

ohh ok I see what happened, it happens to me if im rushing. You have to hold the tape on the ear with your fingers to "melt" it so it gets sticky and sticks well to the other tape. If I dont hold it for a minute or so, so it wont hold.

I thought I held it long enough. Will try again tomorrow, I left the larger piece in his ears. I am running out of tape. How taunt do you tie the yarn and how long should this method last?

usually it lasts about 2 weeks or so depending on how rough they are with their ears and whos helping undo them:lol: I tie them so the inside edges of each ear are touching each other. BUt with that said, if I dont feel the yarn tape is holding well enough I'll put my fingers on the tape and press it down again before I tie.

HI all,
I just caught up with this. Could it be the tape is old? You said you are running out of tape, did your breeder give you an open roll? You also have to be careful about how much you handle the tape, well, the sticky side. I wash my hands first, because the oil on my fingers doesn't help.
You can do this! It just takes practice.

One more thing. When you are removing the tape from the ears, you must pull UP from the inside bottom of the ear pulling toward the tip. That is the way the hair grows. If you pull top to bottom........well, I don't want to describe what happens, let's just say it hurts like h*** and can cause injury.
