Tattoos on dogs

So, I'm going to rage a bit, because facebook just informed me that there are people out there tattooing their dogs.

And not good tattoo's for identification purposes...these are flat out designer tattoos...The overly optimistic part of me hoped that this was merely a hoax post, and so I googled it....no such luck. Instead I learned they're also doing it to cats, pigs...

I read the beginning of an article featuring a tattoo artist who was defending himself...got two quotes in for him before I had to leave so as not to scream in rage and frustration. "I'm an artist, I want to put my art on my pets"

Goddamnit!

I suffer guilt and sympathy pangs everytime Honey even flicks her ears in discomfort, and a bunch of people out there are deliberately poking needles into their pets flesh, repeatedly, for no reason! (Except, excuse me, some are claiming it's for easy identification purposes. Because a small barcode, or simple line of text isn't unique enough, the dog can only be identified if it has a flaming demon drawn on it's stomach!!!!)

I couldn't agree more JacqueZ, IMO tattoo's are just plain dumb and a total waste of time, He calls himself an "artist", don't see any beauty in any of this "art". I can't imagine that the animals are even remotely calm about this, now think how hard it is going to be when next the animal has to go to the vet and needs a shot! I think this is what you would call, Katy bar the door! :hide

Sorry, an "artist" -nada, the south end of a north bound mule is more apt description to PURPOSELY harm anything in the name of art-BUNK!!! And, sorry most of the tattoo's are FAR from artistic. But people's I.Q. has fallen so low lately it doesn't surprise me at all what they are doing. I shudder at many of the existence's pets are forced to live out with their humans.

-SO true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and in a decade or so, when those with all that body art start to age and their pictorial coverages look ghastly, I bet there will be a laser procedure or something to rid them, and it will reap BIG $$$ for the removal.
 
I don't personally have any tattoos, but I gladly support the rights of others to get them. Having tattoos doesn't mean that a person has a low IQ, will change their minds later, or that they're low-lifes. It just means that they have tattoos.

(As an aside, I met a charming 86-year-old woman a few weeks ago who proudly showed off the devil tattoo that she got on her forearm in the 1950's. The colors have faded, but she has no regrets. True story!)

As far as tattooing dogs... it's low-hanging fruit, and easy to get angry at. Humans do far worse things to animals every day, and we turn a blind eye. But these dogs are happy, housed, and loved. It's not a choice that I would make, but I think it's far from abuse.

a dog is not a canvas...I would HAPPILY supply anyone with canvas to encourage their "artist" ways! It is low life to subject your pet to pain for your "creativity". That is having low IQ pts IMHO...to cover yourself in body art-ok, way different....you have choice, pets don't
 
I find this topic so wrong on so many levels that I hardly know where to start:

:no: I have little to say about whether or not this is art since art is in the eye of the beholder AND while I vote NO, others will have a different view;

:no: Oddly enough I would not be in favor of enacting more laws to put a stop to this lunacy. It isn't because I think this idiot should be allowed to perpetrate such cruelty upon animals, because I don't. The problem with more laws is that our representatives do such a poor job administering the laws that are on the books that in my view, MORE laws isn't the fix. I'm quite sure that in most areas, applying the current "animal cruelty" regulations would work just fine if the legislators/administrators would care enough to get off of their behinds and do their jobs!!!

:no: What bothers me the MOST about this absolutely absurd issue is THIS: (If you saw the picture of the dog with the tattoo), the dog is shown WITH TATTOO - lying on a veterinarian's table - STILL UNDER ANESTHESIA - fur shaved with the heart tattoo in all of its glory. Some VETERINARIAN allowed this moron entry into the vet's operating theater after a medical procedure, OR (depending on the version of the story you buy) put the poor dog under for the purpose of tattooing the dog!!!!!!

OWNERS are often idiots and morons. Heck, (not the "H" word I want to use, but this is still a family medium) - Heck CITIZENS in general are often idiots and morons. But, where in the heck (STILL not the "h" word I wanted to use) - where the heck do you dig up a veterinarian or ANYONE associated with a reputable vet practice that would participate in such lunacy?

Did anyone here get the impression that this issue severely TICKS me off? :gaah
