Teddy had a set back.

Oh my late to this update - good you got him in, that wound does not look good and all the hair matted with goo and old blood is just a hotbed for infection. Glad you got better and more prompt care today. Don't EVER feel bad about standing up for Teddy! Who else would? You know your dog best and want the best for him. Sorry the cone is still on but hopefully now with systemic antibiotics onboard things will turn around quickly.

Sharon is so right. Maybe I'm just old and don't give a rip any more, but I never feel bad demanding attention or care for the dogs when I know it's needed, and neither should you. Sometimes you just have to stomp your feet and make them pay attention. I think our vets are all so slammed these days that a lot of stuff falls through the cracks that shouldn't. I always try to do it nicely, but I am as persistent as I have to be to get results. And when it's not an emergency, I bring them donuts. I'm not above bribes either! :)

I was VERY surprised that Pico was give no antibiotics after his neuter (remember, he had a tummy incision as well as the typical one).
I guess they don't like giving them anymore :(

As for open wounds, Gavin had one after his surgery. his stitches popped and it was too tight to re-stitch.
It had to heal by secondary intention (bandage changes 3x a week for a few weeks..on his hip so they stitched the bandage on)
It looked REALLY gnarly. But it all healed up just fine although it never got fur again on that spot.

I hope it cleans up and teddy starts healing soon!

Well tonight update at 4:15 when my wife got home we took the leg suit off and the ugly gauze pad with tape edges came 3/4 off.
Called Vets Office
They said he is with patient will have him call you as soon as he is done. Waited till 6 called after hea number 15 minutes later he called.
Said as long as Teddy can't lick it he is good. Actually watched the little S*** make it to the wound in old cone barely. Carol talked to a friend that had a poodle and got her bigger cone.
Retro fitted it for Teddy (3 inche past nose)Dr said take meds on schedule and air on wound would help.Absoultely no licking. Did not offer to rebandage even at afterhours rate
Right now I am not happy camper (Bet you could not guess huh)

Here is this afternoons picture :

After sleeping in a chair for 4 hours straight (first since Sunday) I have come up with this. Thanks in advance for allowing me to vent just a little it helps.

First off, I can't say enough about my wonderful wife Carol as she not only takes care of me but now takes care of Teddy doing all the things I can't do one handed
2nd Teddy He is awesome,I know his boo-boo is relatively minor but he's been a great patient while still trying to do what he thinks is his job .
During his visit today,Yes I was a cranky old geezer, to get him the treatment he should have received on Thursday last week . and the afternoon when even my wife agreed it was not what we used to receive in the way of service
The whole time Teddy has been doing what he thinks is his job. Since Sunday I have found his situation stressful, which means my Blood Pressure has been elevated more than normal and Teddy has been alerting and been right every time. So he is also super Velcro dog even though I know he hurts
I have the greatest family a man could ask for.
I also can't thank the members of SN enough for allowing me to vent, tell my story, the support and comments/suggestions you all are awesome.
It also leads me to wonder if because of my physical limitations should I even have a dog of my own since I need as much assistance with their care as I do. Is it fair to Teddy. That is something we will never have an answer to, we are family and good or bad he is stuck with me. Maybe it's I am stuck in a world how it used to be not how it is.I have never complained about paying someone to do a little more to do things I can't but now days doesn't seem that is even an option.
The story continues.,.. Thanks a lot for letting me vent...
