I have no problems with my dogs expressing displeasure, as long as it doesn't go beyond that. They do it on the agility course too if my directions are not clear.

I also like my dogs to be a little bit bad, and to think for themselves. Part of that is allowing them to be pissy sometimes. I don't want little robots.

I don't mean that I have to be cruel with them. I don't have to be I simply take control of the situation by either removing them from the room and shutting the door, or crate them until I'm finished with what it is I have to do or clean up....I have workmen, repairmen and all sorts of adoption clients in my home and around my yard all of the time and every one of my dogs know when I say quiet I mean it! The new guys that come in are not given any lattitude either.. If I say quiet and they continue to bark they are treated just the same as the rest of the pack, either a squirt with the water bottle or a time out in the crate. It's not hard to keep control it just takes dilligence and patience on your part to take that minute to take control of the moment....

That is exactly what I did. I put her in her crate and squirted her with water and I continued on with cleaning up. She settled down very fast. Bailey just turned a year old. I think she is trying to be the boss. Of course I won't allow it, but she is in that stage, where she is going to try.

He typically does this when I've pulled to much stuff out of his mouth on the walk (sorry vash, your not allowed to chew the 100 cigarette butts you find on the sidewalks).

He's also gotten pretty vocal when I end play with him on occasion, and when that doesn't get the desired response out of me he'll start being mischevious. He'll wander off out of my sight and do something he knows he's not supposed to.

:lol:, Megan "argues" with me too, she'll bark back at me in protest to MANY things! I shouldn't laugh, but it's funny when they do it..

I want a dog that express itself and thinks... as long as nothing goes beyond the grumbling or huffing, LOL

Uh, that would be a big yesssssssssssssss with Ellie. I have devoted entired threads to her screaming hissy fits. She doesn't do it now, thank God! She got over it with much patience and persistence.
 
I feel like I am missing out on something - no hissy fits, no barking without reason, no counter surfing, returning balls and hula hoops without asking, lots of cuddling, house trained at 11 weeks - what did I do wrong (boo-hoo, sobs!!!).:lol:
 
No hissy fits or grumbling under the breath here. However, I do ocassionally get a little bark back from Meggie. It's like she's saying, "No, mom!" But she doesn't push her luck.

Now, barking for no reason, that's a completely different story. :)

Ember yes when she was young. I didn't allow it or let it go without a timeout,redirection or something but you know sometimes when they are learning they try new behaviors on for size and see if they work. Never got Ember anywhere so she doesn't do it anymore. She hasn't for years. You know, come to think of it, I was alot like that as a kid. Never got me anywhere with my parents either.:wink2:

Diva only yells at me on the agility field. She likes to tell me what a bad handler I am. But she is the most compliant dog otherwise. She tries so hard but I frustrate her.

Justice never. He wouldn't even think of it. Not in his make up. He is a born "yes man" :lol:
