The 80s Crimper look.

There was two women who owned the obedience center I took Smudge to. One bred/showed border collies. It would be a cold day in Florida before I went up against her border collie in anything. That dog could do it all!

lol
as long as Toffee has fun, and me too.. I will do Agility and even against Border Collies who are amazing dogs, I sure love them, but they can make mistakes too.. or I should say their handlers can! If not they deserve to win :)
hahaha, it's not just about winning, ya know ;)

And BCs like to tell their handlers they are making mistakes too! Very talkative blighters when their owners arent going fast enough for their liking!

If you were interested in doing agility, I wouldn't let the BCs stop you. First off, agility is mostly you and your dog against the clock. While placing (1st - 4th) is nice, its the Qs that are important and those are strictly you against the clock or meeting the points requirement for the game.

Quite honestly, for every successful BC/Handler team I've seen (and I'm NOT talking about World/US Team level... I'm talking those of us who just compete in local events - even at something like CPE Champion Level) there are 10 BCs who are out of control and knock bars and go off course left, right, and center. I've even seen Shelties that out of control on course.

humidity? there's none of that here in south Alabama :wink2:
guess that's why Mr. Cranman has curly ear fur- it's kinda wavy on his back too :smile2:
Yep it can be fluffy and non-crimped on Sca for about an hour with a good brushing and baby powder. As to his "other" color Alabama red clay I have just given up.

Uughhhh, red clay.........impossible to get out........

McKinley jumps Teddy's back. I love to watch him do it. He runs from behind, jumps forward and across and without pause, ends up in front of Teddy still running. Poetry in motion............and then the little monkey will fall up the steps!

I was only joking when I said all of that (but I was being serious - this woman's border collie is something to talk about!).

Smudge isn't doing agility after I learned that a lot of the dogs from the puppy mill he is from have terrible bone problems. He's really more of a laid back kind of guy as he's grown up some. He really only jumps or runs when Fluffy gets him riled up.

Fluffy, I think, would love agility. She has some fear issues she needs to get over, but this dog is 100% energy. The words "stop" and "slow down" are not in her vocabulary.

When I go to the dog show this coming Saturday and Sunday I will watch and decide what we will be doing. I haven't see a real competition of any kind before in my life.

The bad thing is that Terry, Jennifer's husband, is showing his coon hound at the same time Janita (one of Jennifer's friends whose sheltie took 2008 Best All Around Sheltie at nationals) will be showing her dog in obedience. :dead: So I probably won't get to see him in action. I've heard that he is GOOD (the sheltie).

Red clay is evil! We have it here, too. It's all in our yard. :dead:

Mr. Smudge is 17 1/4 inches. I'm sure if we were going to do agility he would have to go with the border collies. Smudge and Fluffy JUMP OVER EACH OTHER'S BACKS when they get excited! Fluffy clears Smudge (and I mean she's still a good distance above him!). I have not measured her in a while, but I am guessing Fluffy is somewhere between 14-15 inches. Probably closer to 14.

At that height Smudge would be jumping 16" -- same height as Phebe. Most BCs I've seen jump 20" or 24". There are a lot of Shelties at the 16" height.
