The Adventures of the Little Red Caboose

Cubby graduated from Basic Dog Class last night at 6.5 months of age. He did tremendous. The only thing that was a bit weak was heeling but he went to the rug from literally across the room and was the only one who could do the 1 minute sit/stay and the 2 minute down/stay. When we got our diploma, it had a GOLD sticker. That is rare. I have been through 4 obedience classes and the only gold sticker was Melli on her second time through Intermediate I. GO Cubby. His reward was that last night I decided it is time we start him sleeping on the bed rather than in the crate. He slept all night right by me and Melli moved to the foot and let him have the head spot which is uncommonly gracious for her to do as she won't do that for Shay or a cat. I can see the crate back in the closet next week YAY.

Anyway, it was a really exciting evening. Here is Cubby's blog entry link with pix:

Congratulations on the first of many, many special acheivements to come!
The future is so bright, you ought to be wearing shades!!!!

Go Cubby!!!!

Thank you. Cubby is really mentally what I was hoping for. His coat is starting to really be gorgeous. It's coming. Yes, we have just enough tip to the ears to count and look good in the pix.

Next up . . . time in the RV while Daddy flies some RC jet planes. We will be across the street from a prestigious horse farm. I imagine Cubby and I will be headed that way to check out the horses. Ooooohhhhh.

Yay and congrats to my buddy Cubby, from Lacey. I started school last night and it was hard!! There are so many dogs in my class and I am the littlest one there. Mom says I'm the cutest one too of course. Well I am pretty darn cute you know!

Luv ya little sister! You ARE the cutest dog and probably the smartest and definitely with the bestest Mommy and Auntie!

Oops, I needed to say big buddy and big brother. What can I say, I'm just a baby and get confused sometimes.

Added a bit to the blog. We have been quite busy on our Fall Break from classes (all of getting to skip one week). We start Intermediate I next week and I hear the class is full. I hope we are ready for it! In late January we are also going to pick up scent unless we hear Intermediate II is offered. Kind of want to get all the obedience done in a chunk, then scent, then agility, and then some misc. classes they offer from time to time.

Cubby is now 7 months old this week. He is just about 17 inches and about 22 pounds, a little on the lean side but not bad. He is pretty red which is great as that is his name and his shading is coming in attractively around the head and shoulders. His ears are tipped and have been unweighted or untreated since Oct. 20th. Hoping they stay there. He's got a good outgoing personality but is not that eager to greet people. He seems to realize quickly that when I give him to people they are friends but just walking around those people are strangers.

The more stories I read about lost shelties (and other pets) the more I truly hope we can learn to track lost pets and help people. It's down the road with scent classes and then finding additional training opportunities after that to do nosework, but I think it would be great to help people. There's a real need.

If you want to read up the latest and see Cubby's 7 month old pix -- http://cubbycaboose.blogspot.com It is the newest entry there. I can't post the permalink from my Kindle directly.

Enjoy. Cubby is turning out to be the little buddy I hoped for, except he still gets carsick and that is a downer. It's better than it used to be, but still not gone gone.
