The Adventures of the Little Red Caboose

Yay for Cubby:yes:

The pack went to two pet stores today for Santa pix.
One had a real Santa and a nice photo setup area. I think the photographer liked them and took like 20 pix. but I'll only be getting one....

then at Petsmart- well, not so good there. Virtual Santa template that takes up a lot of the picture space. No person to hold puppers, pix are taken with a tablet by one of the store associates and not a photographer- wasn't one of our better holiday photo experiences.......

Oh my. That second one sounds kind of comedic. I think one of our Petsmarts was doing it today. I just saw "Santa with fleas and germs" written all over that because people in our area would be bringing anything and everything. Plus they just email you a picture. What if they type your address wrong? Hmmm. I was going to go to a rescue group's holiday open house with a Santa but I had such a huge outing yesterday and I got the good shot. I have a donation for the group that I will drop off when I go down for class. For another option, I COULD have gone to the Bully Rescue fundraiser but, well, Pits and Shelties have some issues. That and pits actually scare me.

Seriously, we did good.

well, there was an adoption going on so most of the other dogs there were likely with the rescue trying to get adopted- so I'll guess cleaned up.
we seemed to be the only ones there for pix and probably some of the first dogs to get photographed- didn't seem like all the kinks were worked out. it was funny because the Petsmart people who helped out with the photo would have preferred a real Santa too.
as for the email- I typed it into the tablet and the person wanted me to doublecheck that it was correct. sounded like once the email was sent, that the photo would be deleted.
I had it before we even got home.....

Ohhhhh, I just checked my training center's schedule. It looks like my trainer hopes to offer Intermediate 2 right after our class finishes. Now, technically, they have Basic, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, and Advanced. However, in over 2 years they have never offered Advanced. They offer Intermediate 2 a couple times a year. So, I suppose that makes Intermediate 2 one of those "one louder/goes to 11" kind of dealies and Intermediate 2 is actually advanced. Anyways . . . I had said IF they offer 2 right after our 1 we will do it otherwise I am ready to migrate over to weekends and do scent and then agility. So, I guess Cubby has a bit more obedience class . . . God help my knee!

Seriously, though, he did brilliant in Hobby Lobby staying right with me as I paced back and forth looking for things. He didn't touch anything or anyone and didn't pull or balk at anything.

However, for heeling he did much better at my Mom's before we went to the store. Why is it though that he does not look up and me and trot? He looks straight ahead but is clearly watching my feet because we were even doing a bit of the moving sidestep and he was with me as well as anticipating the stops. Melli plodded like going to the gallows. Cubby just looks straight ahead or maybe he is just watching my feet? It's cuter when they look up and trot. Sigh. Guess I should be happy with the way he does it, it's passing.

my understanding from obedience people is that the look up at you while moving has to be taught (except for Cran who did it as a puppy without any encouragement from me).

It is not a requirement that they look up for heeling. It just looks flashy and keeps those busy dogs from checking out the scenery. In fact, many shelties don't do it well.

Best heeling dog I ever saw with the late great Joann Johnson's Sheltie OTCH Hobi UDX71 MX MXJ. Hobi looked straight ahead but he was never a mm out of heel position. It was a rare day Hobi lost. If he showed up everyone went damn, who going to be second. Justice was my best heeling dog and he didn't look up either. Celtic is learning to heel heads up but he has that tendency to scan the room if he doesn't. It is a long process to teach.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just noticed they WILL most likely be offering 2 right after we finish 1 if they can get us all to keep going. I won't sweat the eyes forward heeling as long as he is with me within reasonable range.
