The Sheltie Sniff-Down

Mine is always too excited to sniff me. If I have been with another animal she will sometimes sniff, but she is usually too busy jumping up for me to catch her.

Amber does. She will sniff us both from head to toe when we sit down. Any packages/mail must be inspected by her. Her nose is her third eye.:wink2:

Mine do that too. Heck, Forrest has to sniff the mail and any packages that arrive too.

It was always much worse when I've worked in animal hospitals; had a cat who used to glare at me while she carefully sniffed me head to toe. I could imagine her thinking 'I bet she petted them too .'

oh LOL!!! because cat's can be soooo condescending in their thots-thanks for the chuckle!

We too get the snif down. It made me laugh today because after work we stopped to visit with our goddaughter who is almost 5 mos old.

We were both holding the baby as well as petting the cats. When we got home we really got the snif down, but Shelby seemed more interested in the baby smells rather than the cats. She was really sniffing DH's shoulder where he was holding the baby.

Mine don't bother sniffing me - they're too interested in smelling my bag (in case there's food). But I think my two are out and about so much that any smells I bring home aren't that interesting or unusual for them.

Now the cats on the other hand, follow the dogs around sniffing them for ages when we come home. And sadly they don't sniff me either, just my hands if I've been eating.

Now you mention it, I'm feeling very neglected.:(

Maybe sniffing is just considered rude in Australian Doggie etiquette.

I don't get the sniffing so much, because of Ida's reluctance to come close still. But I do get a zoomie welcome dance and a good "barking to". I came home from the zoo on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to rate a good sniff.

Yep, my Laddie and Mr Chance will not even let me through the door until the sniff me up and down! :biggrin2:

Logan does not seem to care...
My previous female never did it!

My Christy does this too . She usually jumps up and wags her tail like crazy. Then when she calms down, she sniffs my shoes and pants. Especially after a riding lesson, since she smells horses.
