Those that Feed Fromm

My guys are on it but it is impossible to draw conclusions since I was behind on brushing then had to stop for a while. Then it has been raining everyday for a while so Sca is red (the orange horror is camo'd to Alabama clay) I will say I picked Sca up and did a partial brush the other night and got a bunch of undercoat out, then he was much softer :biggrin2:

I haven't feed Justus anything but Fromm Adult Gold since he came home, that's what the breeder feeds. He sometimes get a bit of Nature's Variety Instinct because that is what my other dogs eat, but I thnk Justus is in great weight, good coat, eyes bright and energy galore...

My dogs are on Fromm - they were on Salmon a la Veg, but we've just switched to Duck and Sweet Potato. They've been on it for two years now. Their coats are nice and shiny and their weight is good (one of my dogs is skinny, but still in an appropriate range - I think it's just the ridiculous amounts of energy he burns off). They've had a few more mats than normal behind their ears over the past few months, but I think it's just the humidity. Their coats are shiny and healthy.

The main food here is Wellness. My two puppers loved TOTW salmon. Now they eat the Fromm Salmon. I honestly think its the heat. Lady believes she has to take her body and cover the vent, maybe that is why I don't have problems with her.

Lucky Boy he lays on the vent too. Where I have problems is behind the ears. I have no idea what the two do, because I brush them. Lucky has the silky coat and I think that matts easier then Lady's coarse coat.

Neither of mine have been too active, this heat is crazy. Me either. Somedays 104 with a high humidity. Oh it has cooled down a bit in the 90s.:gaah

Mine have mats if I only brush once a week. If I wait more than a week I'm cutting matted fur. Daily thorough brushing or even an every day quick comb-through and I haven't had any issues with mats. How often does brushing happen at your house? You might want to up it to daily just in the common spots prone to matting. My dogs have given themselves mats just by rough housing with each other...another reason why I need to brush daily. I almost switched to Fromm but I went back to Orijen from TOTW.

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it. I hate that I am in the position of trying to find something that works for my dogs :( I guess I am still feeling so burnt about the entire TOTW fiasco.

I am trying to get down to the reason why my dogs had a "change" in their fur textrure that causes them to mat more easily. I totally get that upping the brushing will eliminate the matting, and that is what I have done.

The big question for me and why I posted here is WHY did my grooming habits have to change. What has changed with them, that causes their fur to have a different texture and mat. What made my mom's setter go from shiny to dull.

The biggest change in my household was the food. So I wanted to see if others that feed Fromm are experiencing the same things as I am.

Also, any feedback on Earthborn or Great Life? I just heard about these today and they seem to be up and coming products. I like the Great Life at 13% fat, frankly - for our tubby Shelties......I think these may deserve a look see.

But I would also like to see where these products are manufactured. To avoid another Diamond fiasco.

Why don't you start your own thread about these foods Barb? I'd love to hear what people have to say about them, since I'm not familar with those brands.

I don't feed fromm, but I have noticed that Bailey has been getting a lot more mats this year than ever before.

I noticed this too. I've been a bit behind in brushing and was horrified when I realized how many small mats Sadie had. I felt so bad, she rarely gets matts but she had them everywhere.

I wondered if it had to do with the crazy weather we had this spring. We had those extremely warm days very early in the year and now its very hot, so I thought it might have triggered them to blow their coats earlier and worse than in previous years.

I find it interesting that others are finding more mats than normal this year as well. It makes me feel better that it may not be the food, but rather weather related.

I usually don't condition their coat, but I am going to try and use a conditioner after I bathe and line brush them this week, and hope that maybe that helps keep the mats away.

I moved Tinsel and Phoebe onto Fromm Salmon and Tunalini after the TOTW fiasco. Phoebe had been on Arcana but I wanted to lower the protein a bit. I haven't had Tin long enough to know his coat growth patterns but I can tell you he is in a shed right now - too many reasons for me to narrow the why down to. He's also gaining weight but that could be because of the treats too - he gets more than I would normally give while he learns to navigate his new life. We have also had horribly hot weather so his exercise is really non existant right now. I didn't like his stools for the first few weeks but now they seem to be okay. While never loose they were wetter than I would expect. I've just reduced him to 3/4 cup from a cup per day so we will see what differences that makes. Other than that, his coat is in good shape and so is Phoebe's.
