Throwing up

I had a dog with Juvenile Kidney Disease. She was diagnosed at 4 1/2, and lived about another 18 months (a year beyond what our vet gave her). Sonogram showed she had significantly small and shriveled kidneys, estimated to be about 25% functional. It was hereditary in her case, another littermate died at four years old from it.

If it's an infection, that can be treated. Let's hope it's that.

another blood test this aft

We are going back to the vet at 2 pm for another blood test. I will share the results when I find out - I'll try to remember the numbers this time,I'm sure that will help me to understand things better. Thank you for all of your encouragement and comments. It helps to be able to talk about it, I feel like a weight is lifted off my chest in being able to speak my fears to others who can understand how deeply I love my dog. I'm so worried about her right now that I'm afraid I'll go into the vet's office and burst into tears :(

Do the people in your life support your when you beloved pets are ill? My husband went along yesterday and is concerned but handles this kind of stress better than I do. His perspective is, we'll do what the vet says and see what happens. He's willing to try pretty much anything, I think, to see if we can help her get better. However, my elderly mom who grew up during the Depression is another story. She keeps calling to ask me how much we're spending, why we need more tests, etc. She has me so agitated right now.

Janice,
Take one thing at a time.Right now you need to keep your mind on your babe. Some people, and I have some in my family as well, don't understand when it comes to family pets.
Just let it go,and lets all concentrate on getting her well.I am keeping all of you in my prayers. If it is kidney disease,it can be treated as others have said.

((hugs)) stay positive:yes:

LOL...just give her minimum information

Please know that I am thinking about you and your pup and hoping that things look up for you guys soon.

We all have families like that, Janice. My husband's family is horrified just that we have THREE dogs! What *will* they say when I get the fourth, LOL?! We ignore them. That, and as Michele and Dani have said, just don't tell your mom. It's your decision, not hers.

Good luck. Please know that we do understand here, and we're happy to listen and offer support.

What is your pup's name, BTW?

As everyone has said, don't worry about what other people think!! You have enough to be concerned about.....Any news yet????

I know it's hard NOT to worry, but, keep positive thoughts. I truly believe our "furry" friends can tell when we are upset.:wink2:

Thanks for the advice about my mom :) I believe its true -- better to give her less information because it really DOES make life easier that way. My husband tells me that all the time, but sometimes I lose myself in a need to talk about something...and never hear the end of it.

The blood tests today showed that there was a little progress in some direction, but not in another. Some of the numbers indicate that Holly's potassium came down from 5.4 to 5, BUN was 104 yesterday and 91 today. Phosphates was over 16 yesterday but 14.3 today. The number that increased a bit was the creatnine (sp?) which went from 4.1 to 4.4. The dog got more subcutaenous fluids injected today along with an anti-nausea injection. They gave her another shot of Baytril, but right now, it doesn't appear that its an infection. We go back tomorrow for re-check and I guess I just have to take one day at a time. Hopefully we can avoid having to leave her there for IV fluids.

She barked at the neighbor when we got home, so I suppose thats something good! We syringe fed her some food just now and will be giving her another pepcid and more food later.

I'm hoping for good things tomorrow. The support from all of you has been so sincerely appreciated - Thank you again,

Janice
