Tick--course of action

Well, just had to chime in to say that we found a dead one on Bentley yesterday--not engorged, just dead. And, the one on Lexi, upon further thought, I don't think was attached. So maybe the Frontline actually is working?

Anyways, Cheryl, to answer your question, we usually sit down with the dogs on our laps and just pet them ALL OVER while moving their fur and getting down to the skin. They just think we're cuddling so don't usually resist. We also turn them over and check their stomachs and behind their ears a bit more closely because I think that's where they're likely to go.

Glad to hear they're dead. Which means the Frontline is working. Can't see why they'd be dead otherwise.

And thanks, I rarely do a spot check like that, because I'm lazy. lol I think I'll do it when I go to specific places....just in case. So glad we're not typically a tick area. Hope those suckers die!

Ticks vs using Frontline, etc

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but EVERYONE who uses spot on flea and ticks products needs to thoroughly understand that these are poisons and can seriously harm your Sheltie. Read: http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/avictim.htm

One of my previous Shelties suffered skin burn and lose of fur around the site after I applied a tick preventative on her. Never used it on any of my dogs again. I spray them with Neem "Protect" Spray and will be adding garlic to their dinner meal daily. I also use food grade DE on their bedding to kill fleas, and use sparingly on them once a week.

I think we all want what's best for our pets, but need to educate ourselves about the side effects of using products like Frontline. Even the manufacturer won't guarantee 100% resistance to these critters, but they love taking our money.
