Tinsel's Journey

I was being a good wifey and was making cabbage rolls. While I was cleaning up I dropped the 12 X 16 X1/4" glass cutting board on my "Morton's" toe - edge first. It split the toenail right across about 1/16" above the cuticle and broke the end of the bone. I've had two babies without any drugs and never cried a tear but I was sobbing while I held my foot in cold water to stop the bleeding. We are suppose to be going to the westie thing with Tin and Phoebe on Sunday but if we get the rain we are suppose to get tonight and tomorrow then I won't be able to go as I can only wear a sandal and Dr. wants me to do everything I can not to get an infection.
I wonder how long it will take Tinsel to realize that me doing something to myself is a regular occurence and he doesn't have to fret about it. I promised to make some Potato Leek soup - hmmmmm, maybe I'll use a plastic cutting board this time.

Ouch !!! Praying for a speedy recovery and no rain.

I had to brag about our little boy child. Today he went for his blood test and he sat like a pro while they did it. I'm so proud of him and his courage. Yeah Tinsel.

He has come such a long way. Even with all your accidents, you have done amazing with him. I am just so sorry I didn't get to meet you in the summer. Maybe in 2013.

Boy, that hurts just reading about it! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING hurts like getting your toe smashed! :eek2:

I don't recommend it for sure. Thanks for the good thoughts. My blacksmith offered to come over with his nippers and forge so he could amputate and cauterize my toe. He's such a good friend!!! Whatever would I do without him:winkgrin:
Ronna, I was disappointed when we didn't get the chance to meet up at the picnic but we'll just have to plan another day in the new year.

Ouch! I can sympathize. I worked in a frame shop for a while. I cut through my finger nail w/ the mat cutter once. I almost passed out. I also have a high pain tolerance but something about cutting through the nail really got to me. Yours sound much more painful w/ the broken bone. Hope it heals quickly!

And when your foot hurts, everything hurts! Take care and get well soon!

For sure, we'll have to try next year. Things are just so up in the air it is a wonder I can even keep my head on straight.

At least you didn't do what my father has done in the past - he has used a drill and tiny bit to relieve bleeding under the finger nail and more recently garden clippers to cut his toenails.

Tinsel went to the Westies In Need fundraiser picnic yesterday. There were 324 westies, lots of "westie wanna be" dogs that created a lot of noise and chaos. Although he was really unsure at first and the bagpipers unnerved him when they started up, he soon realized it was just more dogs and people but he was still safe. He started to ignore the barking after about 2 hours and concentrated on looking cute so that he could get more goodies. He got a hug from Starlee, a woman that has had 4 of my westies, and he just snuggled into her. Starlee is one of those people that has a heart of gold and any dog living with her has it made in spades. Her husband, Paul, is exactly the same. Tinsel must have recognized their kind, loving souls because he wouldn't accept that kind of hug from anyone else but me. We spent a lot of time letting him find his legs by walking around the mob and gradually, over about an hour, taking him closer and closer to the group. By the time we left he was quite relaxed with a soft tail and a smile. He slept well on the way home but came to when we stopped to get coffee and his Tin bit - he'd never sleep through the Tim Horton's drive through! I managed to not have anyone step on my foot until I got home and then Rhi, in her excitement jumped on it - OUCH!
Next week it's the Sheltie Rescue Picnic. He's going in for a bath and tidy up on Wednesday so that the lady that drove him down on the first leg of his journey from Quebec can see him at his best. Tomorrow I get the results of his Thyroid retest. I'm really looking forward to getting these results so I hope they call me in the AM.
