Tinsel's Journey

Toffee's Mom - he did better on grooming yesterday. I was able to run the brush over his back to his tail head and down both sides. It isn't layer brushing but I can live with that for awhile. He seems to like puppies- especially shih tzus. This is not the first one he has gone gaga for. I wonder if he was bred to one? Lord knows what idiot things they did at the mill.
He actually got to be the demo dog for mat work today with Mirkka doing the handling.
He's also coming out of the crate every morning just like Phoebe but still wants to go to the family room to be picked up and carried to the exit point. My brand new kitchen has mats everywhere. A runner for Rhiannon with a mat off each exit to the main part of the house, a mat for shoes and now a mat for Tinsel's crate. Ugly but effective!
The Maltese/shih tzu was adorable and the people were really helpful. They didn't seem to mind Tinsel coming in for their treats - of course their Rosie was loving mine. The daughter was great and actually did better on timing then her mom.
Tomorrow we go back into town for a little walkabout. I think we'll take Phoebe this time as well.
Oh yeah, yesterday while I was walking Rhiannon and Tinsel through the field my neighbour had something fall in what sounded like his garage that was really loud. Rhi, who is always off lead, went into defensive mode and trotted off with ears and hackles up to defend her mom and Tinsel went to the end of his lead with his ears fully erect with no sign of fear. Thank goodness Rhi is as well trained as she is and she came back as soon as I gave her a command. Poor Murray is afraid of dogs at the best of times. I think Tin would have followed Rhi right over if he hadn't been on lead! Surprised the heck out of me that he felt brave enough to show a challenge.

Hug given Chris. He says thankyou.
We took him and Phoebe up to the conservation area again today. He met a nice couple, walked right up to them and let them tickle his chin. He did a lot of sniffing around and marked a few spots to let the other dogs in the area know he has arrived.
Dave took some pictures so I will get him to download them from his camera so I can upload them to the forum. He's still not really comfortable with the whole walking in new places thing but he did start to walk away from me today - a good sign of things to come.
Once we got home we had to collect Rhiannon and take her for a walk too. Needless to say after nearly 3 hours of walking we are beat but I it was a good day for the dogs and us. We are getting such beautiful weather we have to take advantage of it.

Here are some shots from today at the conservation area. The other one is Tinsel and Chavala having a lay together while we watch TV. Hope this works.

awwww
look at Mr Smiley face, he is too cute.
Love him hanging with the cat, kitty has good taste ;)
I so relate to having to get out on a nice day, we did the same today, it looks so lovely you sitting down with Tinsel by the river!!

It is so good to see pics of him out and about. Love his smile. He really is starting to blossom in your exceptional care. I am so enjoying this journey with you and Tinsel. Thanks for sharing this with us.

You would never see the Westie and Sheltie in my house that close together! :rolleyes2::no:

Phoebe loves Tinsel. She lets him do things that she would never accept from another dog. She's a pretty special westie with a large heart and has really been of help with Tin's recovery. When Skip, an all breed judge, was here he was amazed at how she allowed strange dogs into her home. We had a bunch of Belgians and a few other breeds here for a CGN test day and tracking demo.
The only dog she took exception to was the Old English Bull Dogge and so he couldn't come into the house. In the ring, in the years she was shown, she acted like she was always ready to start something but it was because we train them not to back down. Unfortunately sparring is still asked for in the terrier ring so we teach them to be "UP" for the conformation ring. Luckily, the bloodlines that I started with and then developed also had the ability to be great house pets, a trait we insisted on in our breeding program.

Tinsel looks so alert and happy in those pictures. You continue to do a great job with him.

I had to laugh at your horse shedding post. I have a white appaloosa and after I brush her, it looks like it has snowed 2 inches or more around us. The hair is insane. She is 25 years old, so I am thankful for each shedding season, though. Around here, the saying goes, a horse that stops shedding is not a healthy horse. Well....my girl sure is healthy!!!!

Tinsel has such a precious face. I'm loving this story. You have the most amazing amount of patience, and coupled with your knowledge and experience, it means Tinsel has the best home possible in which to blossom. He's made great strides already.

Phoebe looks awfully cute as well.
